Thanks for bringing this up. My apologies for the late response here.
I know how challenging it is when you're having issues on the Google Nest Hub Max. A few questions - is this the first time that you're adding contacts? What message are you getting when syncing your contacts? Are your contacts added to your Gmail account? Also, what are the steps that you've done?
