Google responds “Sorry, I don’t know how to help with that” to everything

Starting two days ago, every time I say to turn a light on, google responds with “Sorry, I don’t know how to help with that”. I’ve reset all of my google devices, including the hub, hub max and google minis. Nothing seems to be working.
I’ve tried saying all different types of phrases including:

“turn on the lights”

” turn on the lamp “

” turn the lamp on “

” switch on the lamp “ - as one of the suggested on the display, still didn’t work.

Reading past posts I can see that others have had this issue as well but it doesn’t say what anyone did to resolve it.

Thanks!

I'm at the same exact dismay with you. I'm also upset and annoyed that there are a ton of these postings and not a single reply from google on there own platform. I have to sell google products at my job. Yep, not gunna do it till this is AT LEAST addressed!

Hi,

If you are experiencing issues with Google Assistant not being able to turn on your lights, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Check your Wi-Fi connection: Make sure that your devices are connected to a stable Wi-Fi network. Weak or unstable Wi-Fi connections can cause issues with Google Assistant's ability to control your smart home devices.

  2. Check your device settings: Ensure that your smart home devices are properly set up in the Google Home app and that they are associated with the correct rooms.

  3. Verify device names: Make sure that the names of your smart home devices are easily recognizable and pronounceable. Complicated or hard-to-pronounce names may cause confusion for Google Assistant.

  4. Re-link smart home services: If you have recently made changes to your smart home devices or services, try re-linking them to the Google Home app.

  5. Check for updates: Make sure that your Google Assistant and smart home devices are up to date with the latest software updates.

  6. Try different voice commands: If you have been using the same voice commands to control your smart home devices, try using different phrasing or commands to see if this resolves the issue.

  7. Contact Google Support: If you have tried all of these troubleshooting steps and the issue still persists, you may want to contact Google Support for further assistance. They may be able to help you diagnose the problem and provide you with a solution.

Thanks.

I have been having this problem for the past few days too - I can't turn on my office lights, my living room etc it's driving me crazy! I can't even tell google to send a text when i'm driving now, it doesn't understand me. What the heck did they do to everything this time??

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing details about the issue. I know how challenging it is when you're having issues controlling your smart devices using your Google Home/Nest devices. Let's try to get to the bottom of this.

  • When did the issue start?
  • What is the brand of your smart devices?
  • Are all smart devices affected,or just the lights?
  • What are the troubleshooting steps that you've done?

Let's go ahead and try renaming your smart devices. Make sure to use a unique name for the device and rooms. These will help the speakers to recognize the device easily. Also, unlinking and re-linking your home automation account from the Google Home app will refresh the connection of your smart devices from the Google Home app.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers,

Muddi
