Google speaker plays one song then stops when asked to play a channel from SiriusXM

"Hey Google, listen to BPM Discovery from SiriusXM".  Plays the correct channel on the current speaker, but stops at the end of the song.

"Hey Google, resume".  - Nothing is playing...

This started a few days ago.

If I specify the channel by number, it works correctly:  "Hey Google, listen to channel 341 from SiriusXM".  Or, if the channel has a number and you specify it by name: "Hey Google, listen to Utopia from SiriusXM" it also works correctly.  This only happens when the channel doesn't have a number.  If it shows "SXM APP" on the channel lineup, it plays one song then stops.  Sirius XM Channel List 2022 [with Channel Numbers] (ytechb.com)

I filed a trouble ticket with them. I actually got a call back and they commented that they received a lot of complaints, but no followup to say they had corrected the issue. I think this is what we get.

Bump.... Same issue as everyone. Tried all the suggestions. Called SXM for assist. Alexa works fine. Other devices work fine. GH Mini fails. Come on google , stop kulling all that data and fix something.

I've tried everything and I'm having the exact same issue. Is Google going to fix this or are they going to ignore it since may?

Same problem here. I have to believe that this is Sirius XM's problem, not Google's. Otherwise, instead of playing one song it just wouldn't play at all.

Hi folks,

Thanks for the additional information you all provided. For those who contacted SIrius XM have you received any feedback from them? While we are waiting, could you please provide us with the cast firmware version of your Google Nest speakers and displays?

Juni

Nest Hub Max Smart Display: 1.69.362882

Home Max Smart Speaker: 1.56.275994

I contacted Sirius XM, went through online help, first and second level "help" via phone calls.  Last was on 4-AUG.  All requested uninstall/reinstall XM app, unlink/relink to Google Home, and unplug Google Home for 15+ seconds and restart.  Second level acknowledged the issue and indicated they would let their developers know, but I never got additional support or feedback.

Cast Firmware: 1.56.356012

I've had the SiriusXM stream the Xtra channels before, but I'd say it's been in the last 3-4 months where it only plays one song then disconnects from stream.  "Numbered" channels stream fine.

You got the same line of BS that I received a month ago. This appears to be a case of SXM cutting our service without notifying us or acknowledging the decrease in service.

Thanks for the update. Once you receive a follow-up from them, please let us know by updating this thread so other users can see it too.

I got an error message that said my message didn't go through so I hope I'm not duplicating sorry if I am

Here is my speaker info:

Nest Audio:
1.56.356012
Nest Hub (2nd gen)
1.69.362882
Nest Min (1st gen)
1.56.356012
Google Home:
1.56.356012

Aslo, just want to reiterate that I cannot cast to any of these speakers either to play the Xtra channels.  The numbered channels work with the casting method.  The only way I can play xtra channels is by using the bluetooth method.  The xtra channels work fine on my mobile phone using earbuds.

Thanks

The issue seems to be fixed for me also. As suspected, the problem appears to have been Sirius XM's and not Google's.

Sirius subscription canceled.  Problem solved. Sirius is not the only music service out there, lol.

I just renewed mine😩 but you are right there are plenty of other options. I will not renew again.

Hello folks,

@IdontknowJack, @Krueg, we’re sorry it has come to this. And thank you for being positive. We really don’t have any or have very limited control when it comes to third-party devices, apps, and services. We rely heavily on their functions and features.

@All, have you made contact with SiriusXM? If so, how was it?

Kind regards,

Dan

I did contact Sirius and found the Xtra channels to work fine on other devices, Alexa plays it fine, Just Google Home Mini fails consistently.

So that would imply that this is a google issue then. I don't care who's at fault i just want it fixed!

Support staff at SXM said they had complaints on Google Home and Amazon Alexa

Hello again,

@Wosborn, just to make sure we're on the same page, did the support staff from SXM confirm that the concern is happening on Google Home and Amazon Alexa? We just want to make sure that we isolate this further.

Looking forward to your response.

Best regards,

Dan

Yes, that’s what SXM told me, that both Google and Alexa were seeing this problem.

UPDATE! SXM called me today and said that an update of the SXM app to version 6.0 may solve this problem. They indicated this would happen on the iPhone this week. Stay tuned listeners!

Hey there,

@Krueg, it would seem like doing an update to fix the concern involves everything and not just iOS devices. Still, depending on the kind of update SiriusXM does.

@Wosborn, thanks a ton for providing us that information. It really makes a difference knowing that they’re already doing something to get things going. We appreciate your help. Keep us updated.

Cheers,

Dan

Same issue here. Contacted Sirius and they say it's a Google issue. Back and forth we go.

This has been going on for me for months now as well and you would think someone would have fixed it as soon as whatever change Google did impacted users.

Sirius contacted me and said an update to their mobile app to V6.0 would solve the problem. Maybe she meant V6.6? I have that and it didn’t help. Still broke.

Same issue here. Commenting in hopes of getting more info.

Same trouble here for months. Got to Sirius Xm escalated response after several just unbelievably stupid calls with their supposed customer service. THe escalated person called from corporate office and they seemed entirely unaware there was any issue, so it is obvious no one is working on this. It is also doubtful it is deliberate, just incompetence and overlooking issues. THe most unbelievable part is how they did not know, it is almost like no one is listening to channels like SIrius Xm comes alive or to their on demand stuff (80's countdown etc...)at all on Nest or Chromecast devices, even their own employees which is weird.

Sounds about right. So frustrating. The streaming only channels are often commercial free which works great for listening to at night while going to sleep. As I work around, I've been casting the channel to the Google Home Hub with the Sirius Sleep Timer set. That doesn't work either. At some point, the Sirius app and the Home Hub stop talking to one another...if you look at the app, it shows a different song playing than what's playing on the Home Hub...and, after setting a 30 minute timer, I wake up hours later to the music still playing on the Home Hub. Frustrating. Between this and a handful of other issues, I've been seriously considering replacing my Google speakers with Alexa units.

They’re gas lighting you bro. They told me they’re aware of the issue and would address it. They later contacted me saying update to V6 would fix the problem, which was bull**bleep**. What we have here is a reduction in service with no notice to the customer.

Same issue... Started early summer, thought it was my first generation Lenovo smart clock, so I updated to the second generation. Same issue. Then I upgraded to the Google hub (v. 2) having the same issue.

Same problem except that for the Xtra channels I can't even get a single song. Numbered channels work

Which steps are those? I must have missed the suggestion of steps to take.

Same, what steps?!

I just bought a whole bunch of speakers hoping to get a great home-wide speaker group going and now I'm feeling like I may have just wasted my money.  Can't play SirusXM and, albeit a competing music service, can't play Amazon Music either.  Color me duped!  And, like others, we're not seeing any "steps" to follow and if rebooting is your answer, how is it possible that so many people are having the same issues all of which I'm sure are in various configurations of reboot - take mine for instance, I just installed 3 brand new speakers literally minutes ago and have found that I'm certainly not alone in my sentiment of feeling ripped off and wondering if I invested in the wrong company's platform

If the numbered steps are rebooting everything, then yes.

I rebooted speakers, unistalled/reinstalled sirius xm app and then linked to google account and still doesn't work

The Google ecosystem sucks. Way too many glitches that should not be happening especially with a company as big as Google. Notification delays with security cameras, the inability to customize ringtones for Google notifications such as Google doorbell and Nest cameras, Long reset time between Google camera recordings and now issues with SiriusXM playing continuous on my Google hub. It works fine on my echo show. Alexa and ring are the way to go.

Yeah, I think it's time to switch. Unfortunately, I have a speaker or display in every room of the house, 5 Nest Protects, a Nest Hello, and a Nest Thermostat. That's a lot to replace just because Google can't seem to get their own products to operate correctly. I am deeply invested in the Google ecosystem. This is a huge bummer

I agree 1000%. I’m in the same boat also. I just moved into a new place and unfortunately decided  to go the Google route. Huge mistake. After installing 2 outdoor cameras, a doorbell, 2 Hubs, 2 Nest Minis, 2 thermostats and an indoor camera I started running into issues. I’m in too deep to get out at this point. I should have stayed with what I had in my old place.. Ring Doorbell with Amazon devices. Never had a problem with them.
