Home Hub and Camera

Not sure if I chose the correct labels except for iOS. The box for my hub says Google Home Hub. I've had it for several years.

My problem is with my hub and my Google Nest Cam (indoor, wired, 2nd gen). If I tell the hub to turn on my camera I get this message - "To turn on your Nest Hub Max's camera sensing, open the Google Home app on your phone, tap settings, tap "Recognition & Sensing," then turn on camera sensing." There is no such setting for "Recognition & Sensing" on the Home app. And yes, I have the latest version of the app

I can turn the camera on and off thru the Home app and the hub will work if I tell it to display the camera. It will not perform the Home and Away applications if I say "OK Google Everyone's away" or "OK Google Someone's home". It says it cannot perform a function.

I was in a chat session for 3 hours last night with Google support. The call ended after midnight. The first person passed me to a camera expert who then passed me to a hub expert who then sent me back to the camera expert. I reinstalled the camera, reset and re-added the hub and rebooted my router. None this helped.

Any suggestions?

@MikeBuster

We've never tried this before, but we get the same result. There are no "Recognition & sharing" options anywhere in the Google Home app, either under general settings or under the camera's settings. Perhaps Google Nest simply removed the options in the latest version of the Google Home app.

That is what I think happened. There has to be a way around my problem. Surely, I am not the only person who wants to use the Home/Away routines.

Hi MikeBuster,

Apologies for the delay.

This is not the experience we want you to have; let us help you. A few questions: when did your issue begin? Were there any recent changes made? Kindly send us the firmware version of your Nest Hub (2nd gen). Follow the steps below:

To check which firmware version you're on, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings and then Device information.
  4. Under "Technical information," check for Cast firmware: "X.XXX.XXXXX." If the device is on Fuchsia, check for System firmware version: "X.XXXXXXXX.X.XXXXXXX"

Check the version of your Nest display:

  1.  Swipe up from the bottom of the display screen.
  2. Tap Settings and then About device. You should find your "Cast firmware version."
    • For Nest Hub (1st gen) and Nest Hub Max: If “Fuchsia Version” is also listed, this means your device runs Fuchsia.

Thanks for helping, MplsCustomer!

Best,

Dan
