Home audio skipping and choppy

Doritoes4u

For the last few months I have been having issues when using a group of speakers (Google Home speakers). This is true when using Spotify or listening to SiriusXm or any other audio. The audio becomes choppy on the various speakers and then finally stops, then restarts clear after a minute. All the speakers have very strong wifi connection and each responds to commands immediately. I should note, I also run Google mesh wifi (2 points). I have also never noticed this issue when using just a singular speaker.

What do I do to fix this? (devices include : 1 google hub, 1 home display, 3 nest speakers, 1 wifi point speaker, 2 chromcast, 10 home minis... Yes a big system)

Hey Doritoes4u,

Thanks for sharing details about this issue here. I know it must be a frustrating experience when you're having issues playing music on your speaker group. These can be related to network congestion. Have you tried moving some of your speakers 15-20 ft away from the router? Also, please try creating a group with 2-4 speakers, and check if the speakers will have the same behavior.

Let us know how it goes.

Cheers,

Muddi,

Thanks for the help. All speakers are within 20 ft of a router or point.

When I create a group of 2-4 I usually do not have a problem, it's when the entire house is activated where the problem is most apparent. I should also note, at times the speakers will become out of sync and that's when the problems begin. I mention this as I think there is a mechanism in the speakers to listen to each other? Maybe this has something to do with it? I'm not sure.

Anyhow. I really don't want to accept only using 2-4 speakers as the solution, i like to have music throughout my home during events. That was the core purpose of this system, aside from automation.

Please let me know how to fix, if any ideas.

Hey Doritoes4u,

Thanks for that information - we appreciate your efforts. It looks like the issue is network congestion since lowering the number of devices on your audio group works without an issue. How many WiFi points do you have? Also, have you tried changing the channel settings on your WiFi points to see if that helps?

Keeps us posted.

What is the solution when only one speaker is connect and the music is still choppy or the music stops?

The modem, router, and devices have all been reset, and the internet connection is very good. The speakers just seem to have problems playing music, even just one.

Hi Ed7,

Could you try setting up 2 of your speakers on a mobile hotspot and check if they will have the same behavior. Please note that you will need two mobile devices for this setup (one will serve as a router and the other to be used to set up your Google Home/Nest device).

Let us know the result.

Sorry. I had intended to reply but forgot. I didn't/don't have access to a second mobile device (I live alone), so I was unable to attempt your proposed solution. I did, however, exchange the speakers for new ones which are working fine so far.

Hey Ed7,

Sorry for the delays. Happy to hear that replacing the devices resolved the issue. It looks like we can consider this one complete, so I will lock the thread shortly unless I can help out with anything else.
