Home minis not working

I have two home minis, neither of them is working.  Response to any request is: "Something went wrong; or there is a glitch.  Try again in a few moments".  For both to quit working on the same day, I suspect a software update issue.  Anyone else having this problem? Solutions short of hard reset and starting from scratch?

my Google home mini speaker doesn’t understand set a timer today 9/16/21 but did yesterday.  It can tell me the time and weather but not set a timer.  Worked yesterday.  Only nee thing I’ve done is on my iPhone I did the latest security update.  Nothing else on home network has changed.  I tried plugging and unplugging device.

I am having this exact same issue with two of the minis in my home (one 1st gen and one 2nd gen). I have another 1st gen that is still working but worried about doing anything to it in case it stops working as well. Agree that there ahs to be a software update issue here.

I have also tried a factory reset which allows me to start setting up the devices, however when I get to the step where it updates the software the device hangs with four flashing lights,

Edit - apologies as this may not help anyone else, but I found my problem. The two minis had been "paused" in my Google Home Wifi settings.
