Firstly, I have a fairly simple home setup. 4 lights in total, 2 in the bedroom, one in the living room and one outdoor one. The outdoor one automatically turns on and off with sunset and sunrise though Philips hue app. I have multiple speakers and they are all assigned to rooms.
The voice command "turn on the lights" used to Control only the lights in the room it is assigned to with a simple tone response. I have had this setup for years with no issue. Just recently I am having an issue where that same command is controlling all the lights. The voice command "turn on the bedroom lights" gets a sorry those lights have not been set up yet. The thing is they are, my phone controls are still working properly, they are assigned to the bedroom in the home app. I can't figure out why all of a sudden the behaviour has changed.

Other people here in this community are have the same issue right now.
What country do you live in?
Try Reconnecting the app to Google Home in Settings...Works with Google
Try 'Turn on lights in (Room name)"

I'm in Australia. I tried that, but it replies "sorry it looks like those lights haven't been set up yet'
If it's happening to others, it must be due to an update

An hour ago I just came across this same exact issue with my Smart Life plugs.
But after a minute of reconnecting the Smart Life app to Google Home it is working just like it used to.
What brand are you using? If it's Sengled don't expect a quick resolution.

They are Philips hue. Weirdly, I rebooted the speaker, and it worked fine, but has reverted to this new behaviour again. I will just try reconnecting everything later.

Thanks for your post. ... I've got around 20 Philips down lights. In various groups/rooms around the house and out in my pergola area. For around the last 3 days I've been having issues that the lights either won't turn on or won't turn off when addressing them by grouping (eg turn hallway lights on/off). Other lighting brands e.g. Mirabella Genio seem to be working fine.
I discovered one thing accidently this morning when my nest thought I said turn off ALL lights. .. voila. It worked. Yet these same lights don't respond at all with voice command giving the room/group as a context. Despite the inconvenience of turning everything on and everything off througout the house in one fell swoop, it has produced some useful diagnostics.
The lights are either reporting as offline or just don't function as they should. No internet issues, no connection issues, had these lights behaving perfectly for 2 years now. ... Your post and others I've just seen this morning seem to indicate it's not me, it's google .. and further, it might just be something that is only affecting some third party, google aware, smart devices .. e.g. Philps. .. At least that's my thesis for now.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for reaching out to the community! I understand you've been experiencing issues with Google Home app compatibility and certain brands of smart lights, specifically with lights not turning on or off with commands or failing to connect. Thank you all for bringing this to our attention, and I thank @geeman for mentioning that workaround. Let me share some information about it.
For this type of issue, if your lights are already set up in the app, we recommend unlinking and then relinking them. If that doesn't work or the device still can't connect, please contact the manufacturer of the lights directly. They can provide more specific troubleshooting and resolutions for their products.
Let me know if you have any more concerns; I'd be happy to answer them.
Best regards,
Debora
