How can I get Google Hub Max to play my music, using Google Assistant

Couple of questions I could use some help with.

Over the last thirty plus years I have acquired thousands of music CD's and vinyl that I have ripped to MP3 format.  I have duplicated the data bases on my office PC's and my cell phone so that I can listen to "My" music. A lot of this music was in limited production and can't be found on the Net.  I can play the music from my phone thru Bluetooth to my Hub Max with no issues by using my phone as the source of the music, and as long as my phone is connected vie Bluetooth to the hub.  What I want to do is be able to use the "Google Assistant" in the Hub Max to play music from my data base, be it my phone or my PC system.  Be it an Album, a single song, or one of the many playlists I have created over the years.   I can't seem to find any information on whether this is physically possible for a Max Hub to do through Voice Commands.   Is this request even possible with Google Assistant and the Max Hub system.  If not are there any work arounds out there.

Hi PCSL,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community. I understand that you want your Google Nest Hub Max to play music using Google assistant.

Unfortunately, Google Hub Max cannot directly access and play music files stored locally on your PC's hard drive using Google Assistant. This is because Google Nest Hub Max relies on streaming services or cloud storage for music playback.

However, there are alternative solutions to achieve your goal of playing your personal music collection on your Google Hub Max:

1. Cast from your PC:

  • Chrome cast: If your PC has Google Chrome installed, you can leverage the cast functionality. Open Chrome, navigate to your music files, and look for the cast icon (usually a rectangle with Wi-Fi waves). Select your Google Hub Max as the casting device, and your music will start playing.
  • Third-Party Casting Apps: Several third-party casting apps allow casting local media files from your PC to Chromecast devices like Google Nest Hub Max. These apps typically require installation on both your PC and phone (acting as a remote control).

2. Use a Cloud Storage Service:

  • Upload Music Library: Upload your music library to a cloud storage service like Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive. These services typically have apps for your PC and phone.
  • Integrate with Streaming Service (Optional): Some cloud storage services, like Google Drive, integrate with music streaming services like YouTube Music. This allows you to upload your music and access it seamlessly within the streaming service on your Google Nest Hub Max.
  • Play through Google Home App: Access the Google Home app on your phone and navigate to your Google Nest Hub Max device. Look for the "Cast" or media playback section. You might be able to browse your cloud storage music library directly through the app and play it on your Google Nest Hub Max.

You can also check the following guide to Listen to music on Google Nest speakers and displays and / or Cast media from Chrome to your Google Nest speaker or display.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,

Mario
