How can I stop my nest display from saying what it's doing

hmjenkin
Community Member

When I give a command to any of my Google home speakers, they give a light 'ding' and execute the command.  When I do the same with my nest hub, it loudly announces what it's doing.  "OKAY!  TURNING OFF THE UPSTAIRS LIGHT!!!"

Is there a way to set a nest hub to do the quiet 'ding' that the speakers do (or have it just silently execute commands)?  I've looked through the settings in the Google Home app, but can't find anything that controls this behavior.  I don't need assistant to wake up my kids every time the nest hub hears my commands

Ha!  Just wait until yours starts answering on your hub after dinging on your nest or vice versa, or answering on both, but 30-60 seconds apart, or doing nothing at all, or one answering and doing the action while the other one answers that your light isn't set up.

The wonders of Google nests and hubs.  Sorry I don't have an answer for you, but unfortunately even if there is one, it will only work temporarily.  I've had these things almost a year and have had nothing but trouble.  I've talked to many others here with the same problems.  I've called Google, reset all my devices, hard reset them all (set everything back to factory beginning, uninstalled the software, uninstalled all of the devices attached like lights, etc), and still it happened again.  Nothing works correctly.

Hi folks,

@GodsRaven, we appreciate your feedback. Could you provide us if you still have the case number when you contacted our support team so I can check for you?

@hmjenkin, thank you for using this channel to get help. A few questions: is your Google Nest Hub a new addition to your devices? What troubleshooting steps did you take so far? If you did a reboot, you can try to do a reset on your Google Nest Hub and see if this will make a difference.

Keep me in the loop.

Regards,
Juni

I've done the reset but the behavior is the same.  I've looked through the settings in the Google Home app, but haven't found anything that controls how the device responds to commands.  Is there any documentation on what the available options are and what they control in the device behavior?

If there's no option to control how the device responds, then this is really a shortcoming in the design, and not a malfunction.  Is this the correct forum for feature requests, or is there somewhere else to put those?

Hello hmjenkin,

I appreciate you trying the reset. At the moment there is no option to change the way your Nest Hub responds to commands, but this is going to be a great feature. Here is a helpful link on ways for you to submit feedback.

Let us know if you have other questions and concerns otherwise we will be locking this thread after 24 hours.

Cheers,

Jun

It responds however it "feels like" responding at the time.  Sometimes mine will respond correctly, sometimes not.  Sometimes it tells you it's turning off/on a device, sometimes not.

My hub always tells me if it's turning off my bedroom light, never tells me it's turning off my living room light.  Sometimes it displays when it does them.  My bedroom speaker (nest) always tells me when it's turning either one on or off.  Well, I think it does.  Could be that it does it but doesn't tell me, because sometimes it answers for my living room hub.  Ugh!  My phone sometimes does the action, but it never should.  Sometimes Google asks me which one should have answered, so it's aware that it's screwing up sometimes, but doesn't really know how badly.   Otherwise, it would ask me more often.

Google Home is a hot mess, but no one in here is going to help you, nor is anyone you talk to on the phone.  They'll just keep telling you to reset everything.  No one is actually going to fix the problem.

It was a year ago and it didn't work.  Google told me to come here and you're all worthless.  So, no.  I don't.  Geez, you bots are relentless.  Go bother someone else while the adults talk

Look at my other posts.  Oh, and if you want to be taken seriously, change your name.  Seriously?  I feel like I'm talking to a 10 year old on my granddaughter's Roblox.  Geez.

My Google speakers still randomly talk instead of just doing what I ask them to do silently.  You can close the thread, but nothing's really been done to improve anything here

Duh.  Pretty sure we've all said we are.  The problem is the Google software is having HUGE issues!!!  Stop trying to snow us with your BS and talk to them

Yup.  They don't care.  They'll send you a form link so they can close the thread and say the problem is "solved", even though it isn't.  More Google BS.  One more reason why I'm eliminating all Google stuff a little at a time.  My Chromebook and Gmail come next after I get rid of my Google Home Assistant.

I've always hated anything Apple/Mac or Alexa related and have had either Windows, Android or Google since Windows 3.1, but I may be persuaded to switch.  I'm really just over this

You haven't heard back from me because you're useless.  I rarely reply to "community specialists".  Honestly, I think you're bots.

GodsRaven

LOL. No one is answering because your responses are useless.  We're all telling you to go talk to Google!!  Pay attention.

Hi hmjenkin,

That certainly hasn't been easy for you ― have you already tried the suggested steps above. By the way, when did this start? How often does it happen with your Google Nest Hub?

Keep me posted.

Cheers,

Dan

Do you actually go up and read anything, or do you just come in here and type crap for the fun of it?

Don't worry.  I don't expect a real answer.  I know you're a bot.  I expect you to respond with one of the typical bot answers that I've seen before.  I just wrote this to see which one you'd respond to this time.  I'm starting to find it humorous.
