How do we turn off 'photo memories' on nest hub?

How do we turn off 'show my photo memories' on a nest hub please?

At present I have a photo album selected to cycle as the wallpaper on the screen, but photo memories have recently started showing up, seemigly drawn from all photos not just that selected album.

Someone asked this previously and the answer was that we can't turn it off. That's not at all satisfactory though, as our privacy is based entirely on being able to control which images or personal information appear where. To have all albums appearng as part of photo memories on a screen where only selected albums are meant to show on there is a massive gap in our ability to control what appears where. Please address this immediately.

Not ideal but found you can switch off personal results on specific devices and that seems to remove the memories but leave any curated albums on display. Means she no longer recognises me however so this might impact other uses that you use the hub for.

Assistant > personal results > select device > toggle

Hope it helps!

Try my solution - it's a bit of a workaround until google sort it properly.

But by removing personalisation will that all stop me from receiving information regarding my calendar etc?

What it is I have 4 nests in the household but it is only the one in the kitchen that does this, (the photo memory thing)

I'm thinking it might just be better to swap my bedroom nest over with the kitchen nest, then rename them. Even though both have the same settings so no idea why it just happens on the kitchen nest.

go into google photos app and there’s a section in settings about memories. maybe that will help.

Having the memories on in the Google Photos app is OK for me, but I don't want it on m yscreen in the kitchen, just like everyone else says. Also turning off the personalisation will have a detrimental effect on stuff like tasks/reminders and calendar events. I think I will try turning off memories in the Google Photos app and see if that removes them from the Nest Hub.

Also waiting for a fix for this. I shouldn't have to turn off my personalised results because my daughter has worked out how to show all of my personal 'photo memories' to anyone who comes in the house.

I have curated a specific photo album for this device and this is a major privacy breach.

Totally agree. Really feels like a breach of our privacy doesn't it. And our ability to choose and control how and where things appear. It's totally different from what we are meant to expect from Google. Really want it sorting.

If you turn off memories in Google Photos, it does remove the memories on the Nest Hub. Not ideal, but better than turning off personalised results completely.

There is an option in the Google Home app:

In home:

  • Settings
  • Google Assistant
  • Manage all Assistant settings
  • Photos

All devices that are capable of showing photos appear here.

This issue here is that someone can turn this back on again from the Google/Nest hub itself, should they wish to - without any authentication.

Still no fix from google ?

Not from Google, no.

My reply above explains how to turn it off - although note that it can be turned on again at the screen without any authentication, so is not a permanent fix, sadly.

Wow I purchased the hub to put on my work desk, knowing anyone can access my photos is crazy. It asked for permission just a single button. No check from my account or notification.

This is crazy. We need more control over this device.

What the heck Google? Who ever thought it was a good idea to have personal photos show on displays that family, friends and strangers can see, and NOT have a way of disabling it? You out of your minds??

I've just found a permanent fix for this!

Threw my coffee mug at it - no more "photo memories" now!

Bollocks to you, Google.

I found the solution:

In the Home app, go to Assistant settings. A few settings will be shown first, and at the bottom, there is an option to Manage all Assistant settings.

Click on that and then go to Photos settings and select your choice.

This won't turn off the prompt on the Nest display to show the pictures, but it won't show any images proactively, and if you click it, you have to enable it from the Home app to be shown on display.

That's exactly the solution I gave before - Comment M85572.

Have Google updated something?

I think this is the answer you're looking for:

In Google Photos (on your phone or tablet) , click on your profile badge in the top right corner.

Near the bottom of the resulting card, select 'Photos Settings'

Select 'Apps and devices'

Select 'Photo frames'

Now choose your Google Nest Hub device from the list of devices.

You will then see a list of albums including 'Recent Highlights', 'Favourites' etc.

Uncheck every album.

Back out of settings.

On your Google Nest Hub, long press on the 'Memories' card and choose dismiss.

The card should now permanently disappear.

This setting just needs the "Memories" adding here along with "Recent Highlights" and "Favourites". Then we could have the memories on our phone/tablet, but not on the Nest hubs.

On Home app

Go to settings then Google assistant, then manage all assistant settings and in the search settings look for photos
