Hub 2nd does not respond to certain voice commands for using smart apps

Christineke
Community Member

I have the 2nd gen hub for over a year. I use it to operate smart devices (airco, lights,  plugs, shutters) with voice commands. Since a few weeks, i have a lot of problems. I can’t turn lights, airco and plugs on or off via voice. It does not respond or says it does not understand. All items are still visible in the home app and I can turn them on or off there, but not with voice commands. I did not change anything before the problems.  I have tried reconnecting since, and reinstalled apps, but no luck. Can anyone please help me?

Hi @Christineke

I wonder if your airco branded devices have been part of the depreciation of Google Assistant voice actions that happened this past June. You can read more Google is shutting down Assistant's Conversational Actions in favor of App Actions for Android  and from Google developers: Conversational Actions sunset overview

Reach out to airco support and see if they have some changes in the works for using voice to control their devices again.

Thank you for your answer. My airco's are Samsung.

Gotcha- apologies for the misunderstanding on my part.

Try rebooting or even factory resetting your hub.

Does your Hub respond to other requests such as "what is the time" etc?

Where are you located and what is the language setting?

It does respond to general questions. Location is Belgium, languages dutch and english.

You may want to try a factory reset of your Hub device.  You will then go through the set up as it was new again. If you don't want to do the full reset yet, try removing one of the languages and see if there is a glitch with that.

I'll let our Community team know and ask if there are any known issues as well.

Hi Christineke,

This is not the experience we want you to have; let us help you. A few questions: when did your issue begin? Were there any recent changes made? What commands are you giving and what are the error messages? Are your smart devices working on their native app?

It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

  1. Unplug the power cord from your router, followed by your Nest speakers, then your smart devices.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.

If the concern persists, try the link above provided by JillG to factory reset your Nest Hub (2nd Gen), then redo the setup.

Tell us how it goes.

Best,

Dan

Thanks!

The problems began about 3 weeks ago. I did not change anything. Example of the commands I used to give ’turn on LED’, ’turn on airco bedroom’. the answers now are ’I don’t understand’ or it says nothing at all. The devices are visible and and I can turn them on or off on the hub and in the Home app, and in the native apps. I have not tried the sequential reboot yet.

Hey Christineke,

Chiming in, let's go ahead and try the steps suggested by Dan_A. This will help to refresh all the settings on your device. Also, could you try changing the Assistant language to US_EN and see if your device will have the same response when controlling your smart devices?

Let us know how it goes.

Cheers,

Muddi

Hi, I tried a few things but it did not work. Now I made routines. They work now.
