I want CBC and CTV news to play when I ask for the latest news

Zodelish

It used to play no problem when I asked for the latest news but since I got my new Google Pixel 7 Pro, I went into the Google Home app to add more channels and they're no longer options. Now the only options I have are for American news stations.

Hello Zodelish,

We're sorry for the inconvenience — let's get this sorted out.

Have you tried using this command "OK Google, Listen to (the news from) [provider name]”? Could you try reinstalling your Google Home app? Uninstall and reinstall the updates on your Google App. Rebooting your Google Home and your router might help too.

Best,

Alex

Thanks for replying. When I ask my Google hub for the latest news from CBC/CTV it will play it. But it will not when I ask what the latest news is. It used to before without me having to program it in. And it is not an option in the Google assistant for me to add them. Ive restarted both my phone and hub to no avail. I've also uninstalled and restarted the Home app.

Hi Zodelish,

Thanks for sticking with us. Could you try using the Google Assistant app on your phone to see if you will have the same issue. Also, the only way to get news on a specific provider is to add your preferred news source on the Google Home app.

As a workaround, you can create a custom routine that will enable your Nest Hub to play news on a specific news channel like CBC/CTV. Follow the steps below to know-how:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Routines tap Add.
  3. Choose a type of Routine Next.
  4. Under “How to start,” tap Add starter.
  5. Under “This Routine will,” tap Add action. Then, choose "Add your own" - type the action that you want.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Muddi

The work around didn't work. When I get to the page where the radio stations are listed, there is no CBC or Canadian stations, not even on the World section. The Local stations are all in Florida and California and the US, but nothing in Canada.

Hi Zodelish,

Understood. Going over the steps here might help:

  1. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi network or linked to the same account as your speaker or display.
  2. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  3. At the top right, tap your account.
  4. Verify that the Google Account shown is the one linked to your Nest speaker or display. To switch accounts, tap another account or Add another account.
  5. Tap Assistant settings News.
  6. Add or remove news sources.

Also, check out this article for more information.

Regards,

Juni

It didn't work. All my Google devices are linked to my Gmail account which has been the same for years. When I go into the Assistant settings CBC and CTV news are not listed in the news sources. Only American news stations and some European stations in the international tab. The local news sources come up as Florida and California.

Hi Zodelish,

Apologies for the delayed response. I wanted to confirm if you have tried the step provided above by Muddi? If not, please go ahead and try to play the specific news using the Google Assistant app on your phone. You can also test other phones if the issue persists.

Keep me posted.

Don't lock it yet. I haven't had time to repeat all the steps I've already done. I'm really frustrated with this whole thing. It worked just fine before. CBC news plays when I ask it to. I want it to play when I ask Google what the latest news is and it doesn't appear on the list of stations. I don't know why this has to be so complicated.

Hey there Zodelish,

I'm chiming in to check if you're still unable to play the CBC and CTV news since some customers are already confirming that this issue is fixed on their end. Please inform me if you are still having trouble so we can have our specialist team take a closer look into this.

Kind regards,
Lovely

Honestly I've just given up trying to fix this situation. I've stopped asking Google for the news in the morning because this whole situation has really tarnished my experience with my Google hub. I've done the steps and maybe I'm missing something but I feel like this should be an easy process and it's so complicated. All I want is Canadian news sources to come up as an option and it doesn't.
