Incorporate Home/Away status into "I'm Leaving"/"I'm Home" routines?

I've made a couple of tweaks to the "I'm Leaving"/"I'm Home" routines on my Home app, but when I make the announcement, my Hub asks if I want to set the status to Home/Away to correspond. Is there any way I can incorporate this into the routine?

Hi stevebower,

Thanks for visiting the Community.

I'm afraid that Home/Away Assist have limited settings. Are there any Nest devices linked to your Google Nest speakers? You might want to check these settings if you're using a Nest device.

Change what Nest products do when you're home or away

To change how Home/Away Assist controls your Nest products, follow these steps.

  1. Open the Nest app.
  2. Tap Settings Nest settings icon on the home screen.
  3. Select Home/Away Assist.
  4. Tap either the Home or Away icon at the top of the screen. You’ll find a summary of what each of your Nest products will do when your home is in that mode.
  5. If you want to make any changes, tap on the Nest product you’d like to control.

In general, if you have multiple Nest products in your home, you have different settings for each one. However, all Nest Protects in your home share the same Home/Away Assist settings, so you’ll only find one Protect in this list.

Feel free to respond anytime if you have additional questions.

Best,

Princess

Hi It's more that I need to automate the dialogue "By the way, do you want me to set the Home to Away?" "Yes" which follows the "Hey Google, I'm Leaving"

Hi stevebower,

Thanks for responding.

"I'm Leaving"/"I'm Home" routines are pre-made routines already available on the Home app wherein Home & Away Routines are household Routines that can start when everyone's away or someone comes home. They work with devices that you manage in the Google Home app.

To set up Home & Away Routines for the first time:

  1. Open the Google Home app tap Set up Home & Away Routines.
  2. Tap Home or Away.
  3. Select the devices and settings you want the Routines to adjust.
  4. (Optional) Select the devices you want to use to determine if someone's home.
  5. (Optional) Set up your phone's location to be used for presence sensing.
    • You'll need to enter your home address and confirm it by placing a pin on a map.

Manage what your devices do when you leave and come home

Add a device action

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. On the Home screen , tap Routines .
  3. Under "Household Routines," select Home or Away.
  4. Tap Add action .
  5. Available devices will appear. Check the box next to the one you want to add actions for. You can also select multiple devices that have at least one action in common, like 2 or more smart lights.
    • Note: If no devices appear, then there are no devices available to add to the Routine. The app will let you know.
  6. Tap Next.
  7. Available actions for each device you select will appear. The app will also explain what each action does. Choose each action you want your device to take.
  8. Tap Add action.
  9. Tap Save to save any changes.
    • You can also tap Close near the top of the screen to discard any changes you've made.

Hope this helps.

Best,

Princess

Hey there,

I wanted to follow up and see if you are still in need of any help. Have you had the chance to try the suggestion above? If yes, how is it?

Kind regards,

Dan

That didn't do it , as its not a 'device' that I need to control, but that status change within Google Home itself. To recap, I need to automate the dialogue "By the way, do you want me to set the Home to Away?" "Yes" which follows the "Hey Google, I'm Leaving" initiating command. Unfortunately location detection is patchy, so I can't rely on physical absence.

Hi stevebower,

Apologies for the delayed response. This might be the only way when it comes to the Home/Away status since it relies on the locatio. Questions have specific answers for a feature to work.

For the incorporation of the Home/Away status into the Home and Away routines, its main function is for the devices being left behind when you go out. It still depends on the location to function, like smart lights, it will do a certain action if you’re away or at home depending on the routine that you’ve set beforehand.

I hope this helps.

Thanks,

Dan

OK. Ive not found a solution - the Home/Away status seems to be accessible via the voice Assistant, but not programmable in a custom routine.

Hey stevebower,

Sorry for the delays. Currently, the options available on Home and Away routines are the only actions that you can set for your devices. Unlike the regular routines where you can add your own actions.

We're always looking for ways to improve -- we'll take this as feedback, and we'll gladly pass it along to the team. You can also send feedback using your device by saying, "Hey Google, send feedback." Visit this link for more steps.

Let us know if you have additional questions, otherwise; we'll be closing the thread after 24 hours.

Cheers,
Muddi
