Infamous 83902 problem with Google Home Mini

ChatGPTisbetter
Community Member

I have a Google Home Mini that I bought in Germany and I live in Australia now.

It worked for a year on my WiFi here, in English, and then randomly it disconnected itself and reset itself back to German.

Now when I try to connect it, I get this error:

  • The operation couldn't be completed. (kGSKErrorDomain error -83902.)

I’ve followed this forum’s sticky troubleshooting steps including changing my Google Home iOS 18.2.1 app language to German and factory resetting the device several times, and I’ve also turned off Private Relay.

Also, I don’t really speak German so why would I want this device in German… it has always been in English.

Are Google abandoning us? Are these devices going obsolete?

@ChatGPTisbetter

You can have issues when you use a Google Nest product that was manufactured for a different country.

On the thread below, customer @David_K  has some suggestions:

Thanks for your message. Those steps didn’t work.

The Home mini used to work on my router and setup here in Australia for almost a year, and stopped working when it got reset from a power outage or something.

Customers have been encountering this error for over two years. It is unfortunate that Google Nest has not produced a Help topic for the error AND has not updated their code to intercept whatever is going wrong and instead produce a meaningful error message that tells the customer what to do about the error.

100%, really bad experience

Hi @ChatGPTisbetter!

Thank you for posting in the community, and to @MplsCustomer for the recommendations! I'm sorry to hear that your Google Home Mini won’t connect, and you are getting the error code (kGSKErrorDomain error -83902). I appreciate your efforts in taking those steps before. I'm happy to help you!

To help me find the best solution, I'll need to ask you a few questions:

  • Could you please indicate the language settings for both your Google Home app and your mobile device? Please let me know if they are different or the same, and also if they have different regional variations, e.g., English (US), English (UK), etc.
  • Have you updated the Google Home app to the latest version?

Please keep me posted. I'll be waiting for your response.

Best regards,
Geremi

Hi Geremi, my phone is in English (US), and I have tried the Home app in both German and English and neither works. It's not viable to be using my phone in German as I'm not fluent.

Yep, updated.

Hi @ChatGPTisbetter!

Thank you for your response. Let's work together for a solution.

This issue often occurs when the language setting for the phone and the Google Assistant aren’t the same. Let’s update the language setting of the phone to match Google Assistant’s language.

1. Change your phone's language settings:

  • Open your phone's settings.
  • Select Language & Region.
  • Tap Add Language.
  • Select (English US).
  • Go back to Language & Region.
  • Tap Region.
  • Select (English US). This will only be during the setup process.

2. Change Google Assistant's language:

  • Open the Google Home app.
  • Go to Settings (usually in the bottom right corner).
  • Find Google Assistant and then manage all Assistant settings.
  • Go to Languages.
  • Select English (United States) or EN_US.

3. Force close the Google Home app and reboot your phone:

  • Close the Google Home app completely.
  • Turn your phone off completely for 2 minutes and turn it back on.

4. Set up your device as usual:

  • Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your device within the app.

Let me know how it goes and keep me posted.

Best regards,
Geremi

Can confirm that I tried that and it hasn’t worked
