Issues with spotify

Spacething
Community Member

Hi! recently I've been having issues with playing music on my google home mini. I am a Spotify premium member, and most of the time switching or starting songs doesn't work and I just get a "sorry, something went wrong." Please tell me a way to fix this issue, as it would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Spacething and adzify106,

Thanks for reaching out! I am sorry that your Spotify is not working. I use Spotify all the time as well so I understand how important this issue is.

At this moment, this is an emerging issue of Spotify having issues with Google Nest and Home devices. Our team is aware of this situation and are working on getting this issue resolved.

In the meantime, I recommend you casting your music from Spotify.

To cast from a mobile device, you will go to the bottom right of your screen of your Spotify App. You will see a desktop screen and speaker icon next to each other. Once you click on it, it will show which device you are listening to Spotify on. Below that will be a list of devices you can select to transfer your music to. Your speaker should be on the list. This is what I usually do when I use Spotify and haven't had any issues.

I apologize for the inconvenience. Please feel free to reach out with any other questions or concerns. Thanks!

Hi everyone,

@frances I spent about an hour with a Google tech trying to troubleshoot the Spotify/speaker issue. End result we found is that it's a specific Spotify problem.

How I came to this: I uninstalled/reinstalled the Home app, unlinked & re-linked Spotify and linked the speaker to Wi-Fi like it was a new device. Nothing helped fix the problem.

I also switched over to test Pandora and had no problems.

Next step will be to work with a Spotify tech

The same problem! - "Sorry i can't change the volume on this device" after playing music on Spotify.

The thing is - that after "Reboot" of the Google Home Mini from the Home App - it changes the volume, no problem!

But after you start playing music from Spotify - it's stuck. Even if you switch to another source, Google Home is no longer able to change the volume when you ask for it.

@User123456- can you fix this?

I can't cast music anymore from Spotify to my Nest Mini it just won't connect. I tried on different devices. So frustrating. It's the only thing I use the Nest for so now it is useless to me. I tried uninstalling Spotify as well as the HOME app. Nothing works.

My devices started with "sorry I cant change the volume"  and now it becomes the infamous "Sorry something went wrong" with Spotify. I have 3 home minis, 1 nest audio, 1 nest display gen 2 in the house. Now all devices WONT play Spotify EXCEPT the nest display that still works for whatever reason. Have already hard reset all the other devices that does not work, unlink and link spotify and still no avail. Beat the hell out of me why it ONLY works on the nest display. To play spotify on any other Google home device, I have to cast it from my phone, super annoying and basically makes all my Home device useless !!!

Just to add, the free youtube, Apple music all works FINE, its the silly Spotify that always cost issues it seems.

Did anyone else have this problem start-up again as of last night, and still ongoing into today?

I am seeing this issue since last week. Were you able to resolve issue with your devices?

My Spotify issue is even more mysterious. It was working fine. Then it suddenly started acting up. Now my Google Nest Mini will repeat back the command to play Spotify and then go silent. If I look on the home app, it shows a connection to Spotify and then drops it. Meanwhile, my Lenovo Smart Clock on the same network has no problem. I’ve tried resetting, rebooting, reinstalling, re-linking and relocating everything to no avail. For some reason it magically worked while I was on the phone with a Google Tech. He suggested I monitor the situation to see when it happens. But nothing seems to make sense. Thoughts?

Spotify is always quirky with Google home/nest product since day1. They must have sub par programmers lol

For whatever reason, Google nest speakers will say "cant change volume on this device" when Spotify is playing. I have to stop spotify, get speakers to change the volume, and then play spotify again. Or adjust volume via manually touching the speakers. just lame.

And Spotify volume still way lower compare to all other streaming like radio, apple music, u name it.....

It started working for me since last night after i did a reboot on my modem. But it is still a little glitchy where it stops working suddenly and then after a app restart it works. 😐

My issues seem to be isolated a single playlist on my Spotify account: My Liked Songs list.  I suspect it could be the size of that playlist (over 15,000 songs), as every other playlist works fine.  If I have that list playing on my Spotify app on my phone (Pixel 4a running Android v12), and attempt to connect to a device via the Spotify app, the attempt to connect just times out without ever connecting.  If that was the last playlist playing on my phone, and I attempt to play Spotify via Google (either by voice command to a Google mini speaker or via the Google Home app on my phone), then it won't connect either (via the voice command, the response from Google via the Speaker is "Okay, playing Spotify" at first, but after a few seconds it tells me "something went wrong".  The Google Home App just doesn't do anything, as if I did not hit "Play Music" beneath that speaker/speaker group).

Other playlists function correctly, however I noticed a change recently where if I had a playlist playing on shuffle already, previously the speakers would play Spotify by playing the song already playing and leaving shuffle on.  However within the last week or so, Spotify will play (except for my Liked Songs), but if I already had a song playing and had that playlist on shuffle, it now always starts that playlist over by playing the first song at the top of the playlist, and it's not on shuffle.  But at least it plays, I guess.

Same here. I play spotify in grouped/multiple nest devices and they don’t sync or they stop or freezes.

It would have been “tolerable” if this happens only once a quarter or less. But no, this happens almost everyday.

I have isolated the issue by:

1. Making sure that my internet is fine.

2. That it’s not spotify’s issue because it plays on my phone alright.

3. I also have Alexa (also in multiple devices) and it never had issues playing Spotify.

I have honestly forgotten about this. I don't have any issues anymore, Although it may be because I switched to a google smart clock.

How come everyone else has issues?

Don't know what's changed in the past week but Spotify and Google speaker aren't working together again. 😕
