Mini plays music but disconnects from wifi in seconds when playing podcasts

My Google Mini plays music fine but stops and disconnects from the wifi in seconds when playing Google Podcasts, It connects right back to the wifi afterwards but if I try again, it disconnects again. Google Home Google Podcasts, YouTube Music, the Mini, my phone, etc. are all linked to the same Google account so it's nothing to do with that.
The podcast I listen to plays without any problems on Google Podcasts on my phone. What gives?

Hello Popparotc,

I’m sorry to hear that your Google Home Mini is not playing Podcast the way it should be. Few questions: what is the exact command that you’ve given? Does it disconnect from WiFi or just stop playing the podcast? Does it do the same when playing other music platforms?

Let’s do a sequential reboot first then monitor. Reboot your WiFi router then your Google Home Mini. Restarting your phone might also help.

Check out this guide for more information and troubleshooting.

Keep me posted.

Thanks, Dan.

As it turns out I misinterpreted and then misstated here the entire situation. I had the latest episode of my favorite podcast which wouldn't play much more than a minute at an attempt before the Mini would reset itself and reacquire WiFi. I tried playing music from YouTube and it streamed for 30 minutes uninterrupted before I stopped it. I then tried playing a different episode from the same podcast and it streamed fine.

I retried the latest again and now it too seemed okay.

Now the Mini has disconnected on podcasts at random and also music streams so I suspect it's a WiFi range issue. When I had it on my nightstand I had no problems but approx. 4 meters across the room on the dresser it has trouble. Is it possible in setup to restrict a Mini to the 2.4 WiFi yet leave 5 on for the TV?

Again, thanks for your answer and apologies for my lollygagging in replying.

Hey there,

I really appreciate you making things clearer and yes, it might be because of the distance to your WiFi. but it doesn’t necessarily mean that’s the only reason. Since the only thing affected here is the podcast when playing the latest episode, could we try another podcast instead to narrow things down? I also suggest we do a sequential reboot starting with your WiFi router, then your Google Home Mini. Restarting the phone where your Home app is might also help.

About setting up your Google Home Mini to either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz, it’s alright to do so. However, the speaker can only be linked to 1 frequency. If other devices are on the 5 GHz while your Home Mini is on the 2.4 GHZ, and you wanted them to sync with each other, then that would not work. But if you don’t link your TV with your Home Mini then you can set them up wherever you wish.

Hope this helps.

Dan

Hi again, Dan.

I logged into my modem and found the Mini was connected to 5 GHz. Since as I understand it 5 GHz may have trouble with intervening walls (moreso than 2'4 GHz, at any rate) and syncing with any other devices is not a thing I need, I switched the Mini to the 2.4 GHz and that seems to have solved the problem. Thanks very much for your time and advice, Dan!
