I tried for several days but Google Home speaker keeps saying my Spotify account needs to be linked first before playing music.
I have free Spotify account, and in Home app it shows linked correctly. I also gave all permissions.
Already tried unlinking and uninstalling Spotify several times, but no luck.
Spotify account works well everywhere else (ex: works in the car and phone) .
I feel like buying google home speaker was a mistake, alexa was much easier to use.

Hi there,
Thanks for trying that. Sorry that you are still experiencing the issue. Let’s go ahead and do the factory data reset to put back your Google Home speaker back to its default setting and set it up again as a new device. Once done with the setup link Spotify and observe if this will work this time. Check the steps below for guidance on how to do the factory reset.
Here’s how to reset your Google Home, press and hold the microphone mute at the back of your Google Home for about 15 seconds. You'll hear your Google Assistant confirm that it's resetting your Google Home.
Check this link for more information.
Keep me posted.
Thanks,

Hi himanshupanchol,
Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community.
This is not the experience that we wanted you to have, let me help you out. A few things: which Nest speaker/display are we working with? What command are you using to play music from Spotify? Have you tried casting from the app too? Is the issue isolated to Spotify only? Do you have any other Nest speakers? If so, Is the issue happening on the other one?
You can do a sequential reboot. First, unplug your Nest speakers/ displays for 30 seconds, then do the same thing to your Wi-Fi router to refresh both devices and your Wi-Fi signal. You can also try to play music using YouTube music and observe if it will work so we can further isolate the issue.
Looking forward to your response.
Thanks,
Juni

I am using Google® Home Smart Speaker with Google Assistant (the one in this walmart link).
The only issue is with voice command, when I say "Okay Google, play <artist> from Spotify". It says my account is not linked and suggests to play from youtube music instead.
I tried everything above, and linked another account as well. Looks like google wants to keep promoting youtube music & hence trying to supress voice commands for Spotify.
Casting from phone works fine, only issue with spotify voice command. I am using free account of Spotify.
I even tried setting Spotify as default and asked it to play something, but still suggests to play from youtube only.
