My Alexa was old and bricked, so I thought I would choose google this time and bought the nest speaker. However, every time I use it, my phone also responds to the wake phrase. This is super annoying, and I can't find a way to change it.
If I had known that google was unable to include such a common sense feature, being able to change wake phrases, I would have bought a newer alexa instead.
I've been an android user for years, and was looking forward to setting up a smart home ecosystem w google products. But smart home devices are supposed to solve problems, not create them. Bout to sell this hunk of junk on ebay and seek a more functional alternative.

Is this Help topic of any assistance?

Thanks for the reply. No, that doesn't solve my problem. I have notices this functionality, but it is faulty. Most of the time both devices respond. And even when it does work, it often guesses wrong about which device I wanted to use.
Instead of expecting google to be able to read my mind, I would like to have a way to differentiate between devices.

On this blog post, Google Nest gives only one example for why a Nest Hub and a Pixel phone would both respond to "Hey Google": having different Google Accounts on the two devices:
They say "there are a few reasons", but don't provide any other examples.
Google Nest also has this discussion thread, but it doesn't seem to have any answers: https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Speakers-and-Displays/Let-s-Discuss-Using-Google-Assistant-an...
We don't have the issue because we have iPhones and seldom have Google Assistant running on them.
