Nest Audio Bluetooth keeps disconnecting

j0ashm
Community Member

Just purchased a Google Nest Audio this week.

To my dismay, the Bluetooth on it just refuses to work.

I try connecting it to my phone via Bluetooth, the connection works for about 3 minutes and then suddenly drops off.
I can’t reconnect to Bluetooth.

I end up having to completely reboot the nest device, forget the device on Bluetooth and then do the entire pairing process again.

extremely inconvenient. Are there any solutions to this?

Hi there - the version running on my devices is 1.56.324896

😞 I'm on same version and still having the same issue. Connect bluetooth to speaker. Within a few hours will lose the connection and then requires a reboot to reconnect it.

Tech meant to make life better not cause daily stress!

I give up on constantly rebooting. Issue just returns. Only good thing is I bought when they were on sale. Back to the regular Bluetooth speakers. These Nest speakers do make great doorstops……..

Yes, exactly what we needed, a new color ! That solves everything, thank you Google !!

2023 and Google nest speakers are being more stupid than ever ! 2023 and google speakers still don’t understand prompts and voice ! 2023 and google nest speakers still are obsolete and can’t do simple requests ! 2023 and nest speakers still can’t connect together to a tv for a seamless experience without lag. 2023 GPT3 and AI and still google is not updating devices and making users experience easy. 2023 and Google is still pretending there is no issue and not taking care of  customers. Happy new year everyone but not to google

Same random disconnects when I use it as a Bluetooth speaker with Macbook. Doesn't want to reconnect. The Assistant says that something went wrong and try again later. After the power off\power on cycle, it connects again immediately. After some time, it could be 10 minutes or 3 hours everything will repeat. I tried everything and I still have the same issue.
No more google stuff. Great hardware and the worst software and support- company motto.

+1. So frustrating

Just to keep this thread alive, this is still an issue with the bluetooth disconnecting.

Update on this issue. After my 12/14 factory reset it worked until about one week ago I was in disbelief and haven’t wanted to try and troubleshoot this again, but like everyone else on this thread very frustrated again. It seems that if Google wanted to fix this, they could release a firmware to resolve the issue but I’ve seen no progress on fixing this. I will be moving to Apple product very soon. This is a waste of everyone’s time.

I just wanted to comment that I have a nest mini and this issue has been present there since 2019. I had called and submitted many forms about it and have given up.

It goes without saying that I don't have any confidence whatsoever in Google's hardware. This issue was the deal breaker when I considered buying their Pixel phones. They should have stuck with being a software company.

I have the same problem, got in touch with google support a coule of month ago and they gave me some bull**bleep** instructions on how to reset the speaker but that did nothing except for wasting my time.

I will return the speaker to the store, my Google Nest Audio and then only go with the apple home pods. Apple atleast has a support you can call. Google does not.

Reading all of your comments here really angers me, how can google ignore this thread? I have only seen two community specialists answer so far during 3 years and all they said where "Does anyone still experience this problem and if so what have YOU ("yes you, useless user -- [they did not really say this but I got the hint]") done to fix it?" -- And then it is silent from them.

I swear that I will not be buying anymore google **bleep** products in my life. My youtube premium subscription is also hanging by a thread atm.

Same issue here. So disappointing...

Btw I spoke with multiple people at Google. I soent over 45 mins on the phone with a lady that troubleshooted the device with me. Finally they told me they can’t replace the device because the issue may reoccur… really?!? They know their speaker has a default and they keep selling it.

Had this issue with my nest mini connecting via bt to windows 11 - the nest would pair, connect for two seconds, disconnect, and refuse to connect from then on.

Removed the nest pairing, then paired it again not as audio, but as a "device" (mouse, keyboard, etc). So far it's working like a charm. Only took an hour of searching and a half-pound of chocolate frustration salve.

Nice of the two experts to pop in and do nothing though. Hope this works for some of you as well.

2023 and still no fix for this, I have google nest speakers on all my rooms, maybe it's time to replace them with the other brand.

I've had the issue for a while and have found a workaround and the possible issue(contention between your connecting devices):

1. Bluetooth connection from iPhone to speaker using various apps (Apple Music, Sirius XM, etc)

2. Connect to phone each day by voice...."Connect Bluetooth"...In most cases the response is already connected

3. All works fine for a few days until I notice no sound, but Apple Music playing for instance.

4. When it happens, go into your Google Home app under "Media" and you'll notice the sound is at 0 (zero).  Bump that up and you'll start hearing sound again

5. My theory is that it's not so much the endpoint device as the initiating device (iPhone etc).   If you have multiple connections to your speaker from multiple phones, the last connection request to the speaker will override.   Whatever the settings were on that last device are most likely muting or setting your speaker volume to zero.

6.  I've had several weeks with zero issues (unless another phone with the Google Nest configured for Bluetooth connection comes in range while playing media).   When that does happen, I just change the volume setting again in Google Home under Media.

Model: H2E

Firmware: 1.56.315675

Note:  I haven't rebooted my speaker/wifi endpoint in weeks and listen via Bluetooth connection everyday.

It’s interesting what you’ve found, but this definitely isn’t the problem I’m having. My phone is the only phone connected to my speakers. It also isn’t a volume issue on my end and can’t be the phone since it never drops a Bluetooth connection with any other device.

Yes same for me, the thing is that I'm not using a phone to connect to my speakers, I use the nest audio speakers as PC speakers, and my Bluetooth dongle works fine because other devices never disconnect, only the nest audio ones, sometimes in the middle of a song of a series starts to skip or desincronize, or totally disconnect from Bluetooth. Sometimes I have to totally restart the speakers to be able to connect again with my PC. My nest audio are not close from my modem, in a place with good signal but without been next to my modem, so it's not a modem problem. I don't think is a dongle problem either, already tested having only the speakers conectes to the PC for weeks and still no solution.

This is still an issue and it hasn’t been fixed yet.  Pretty ridiculous.

Weak wifi connection on one or both speakers?

Sas1
Community Member

Nope.

Mcmanama

Not at all.  Also, I have the same problem with any of the 3 sets of the speakers that I have no matter where they are in relation to wifi signal.

A weak Wi-Fi signal is not something I experience in my home so I don't believe that's the issue that I am having. I keep my speaker hidden on top of one of my kitchen cabinets right next to the sink and I have a Mac Mini with a small monitor on top of my fridge just across from it that's less than 15ft away using Bluetooth to connect to each other and no other devices connect to the speaker. It used to disconnect several times a day until I changed the setting on my router a few months ago to renew leases every 24hrs instead of every 2hrs where it was set to previously. Now it disconnects once a day and it happens around the same time of the day that I had connected to it the day before. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are obviously 2 different signals so I have no idea why changing this setting for my network seems to extend the duration of this one Bluetooth connection but it does in my case. I upped the lease time this morning to every 48hrs to see if I can replicate the same results.

My monitor and microwave oven causes Radio Frequency Interference to the Wifi signal. I have replaced my router with a mesh system which helped.

I currently have a mesh system and have a mini on each floor, one right next to my router. All other devices show a strong WiFi signal and have no problem with Bluetooth connects. The Google mini is the culprit

I did exactly what you say and still no changes, the Bluetooth keeps disconnecting with even the 24 hours lease time and static IP.

That sucks, Boss! I'm sorry that my workaround doesn't seem to work for you. There must be something more to my environment that's helping me. I've now passed the 24hr mark of when I connected last after upping my lease time setting to 48hrs and so far it hasn't disconnected *knocks on wood*.
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are 2 different signals that do not depend on one another so I have no idea why changing my lease time seems to help me with this ONE Bluetooth connection. The Mac and the speaker both have static IPs. There are no other Bluetooth devices connected to or remembered by the speaker and the Mac Mini's keyboard and mouse are also Bluetooth but never have problems. If you already haven't I would maybe check the QoS page on your router next to see if you have anything running that you might not need and either disable it or modify it.
Just to be clear I consider this a workaround, not a fix. I am still annoyed that it's happening but it's far less frustrating when it's happening once a day vs several times a day.

Stop saying it is Wifi ! Google update the google nest speaker and nest mini ! Come on ! More than 2 years and u guys are sleeping with boring updaters that doesn’t do anything ! Even the matter support is not even there ! WHAT THE HELL IS GOOGLE DOING ! WAKE UP !!!!

Google told me in writing that even if they would replace my Google Nest, the issue would still reoccur. They know their bluetooth device is not working and they won’t do anything. So disappointing. Will never buy a Google device again.

pure garbage and i have three of these **bleep** speakers

My experience

- Connect nest mini speaker to bluetooth speaker via Google home app
- Home app shows default for audio now bluetooth speaker. All works fine. The world is happy.
- Come back next day expecting bluetooth speaker to still be the default speaker.
- It is not. Connection has been lost. Have to reconnect. Repeat step above.
- The world is not happy!

I'm not an engineer, just a user but strikes me that Google needs to look into a firmware update to maintain the connection with the bluetooth speaker once it has been set to default.

The fact this thread has been active for such a long time does not point to Google having a solution or caring about one or communicating any internal action/investigation - hope proven wrong.

Google please try to fix this issue or remove them from sale, I bought 2 speakers to have a small surround sound system in my bedroom but the problem is the speakers are almost completely useless, I have to reconnect to speakers every time I turn them on, plus when they do connect I'm lucky to get through a movie without having to reconnect them multiple times as they seem to at random disconnect and I have to manually reconnect them, the sounds quality isn't bad but the software makes them impossible to use, I just don't understand why this problem has been around for so long and they don't seem to care enough to either fix the issue
