Nest Hub 2 cant find anything in Home Control

There are multiple versions of this thread from around 2022, but they are locked, so starting a new one.

I wanted to add to those threads that I bought a two pack of Google/Nest Hubs in 2021.    They were both set up in one home where we didn't use Home Controls, and I recently tried to move one of them to a home where we did.   Despite a factory reset of the device, as well as a factory reset of my network ( 😞 ), the hub that I was working with never recognized the Home Control devices in the home.

I had forgotten about the second device, and though I'd set it up just to confirm that the Home Controls weren't working with the model.    But after a factory reset, and about 20 minutes of updates, the second device has no problem with home controls, and sees everything.    So, it really may just be an issue of the specific instance of device you have that prevents home controls from working.

I unfortunately have had this experience (random reliability) with multiple Hub devices - I used a Hub Max for teleconferences with family until 2022, when it randomly stopped working;  buying another device was the solution to that problem.   😞

Hi beanbag3,

Thanks for bringing this up.

Sorry to hear that you're experiencing that with your device. Since you've mentioned that the other Google Nest Hub is working good with home controls, could you please provide it's cast firmware version so we can compare why the other one is behaving like that?

Check the firmware version of your speaker or display

To check which firmware version you're on, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings and then Device information.
  4. Under "Technical information," check for Cast firmware: "X.XXX.XXXXX." If the device is on Fuchsia, check for System firmware version: "X.XXXXXXXX.X.XXXXXXX"

Check the version on your Nest display

  1.  Swipe up from the bottom of the display screen.
  2. Tap Settings and then About device. You should find your "Cast firmware version."
    • For Nest Hub (1st gen) and Nest Hub Max: If “Fuchsia Version” is also listed, this means your device runs Fuchsia.

Looking forward to your response.

Best,

Princess
