Nest Hub 2 gen: No applications available

Luminosa
Community Member

Hello, community,

I have recently purchased Home Nest 2 Gen. It's all right, except the applications meny is not available. For the context:

1. The device was purchased and connected to an existing home, was never moved from one physical location to anoter, or from one Home to another.

2. Purchased and used in Belgium, language English for the device itself, Home app on my Android phone and the Assistant.

3. Was reinstalled and rebooted several times without any improvement.

At this moment the device can only be used as a cute photoframe and an additional screen to cast other devices on to.

Is there any way to understand where the roots of the issue come from? What can be done?

Thank you!

Kind regards,

Luminosa

Hello Luminosa,

Thanks for visiting the Community.

My apologies for the late response. To set your expectations, we can only guarantee the full functionalities of the Google Nest Hub (2nd generation) in those countries where the device is officially supported, but unfortunately, Belgium is not one of them. If there are specific features that you’d like, we can go ahead and take a look at them and try some basic troubleshooting if needed. Also, it would be best if you could give us more information on what types of applications or features you want to use.

Looking forward to your response.

Cheers,

Hi Muddi,

Thank you for your answer.

For example, YouTube Music seems to be a very basic integration for a Google product, and a matter of two-three taps if the user has the subscription already. Is there any way to open and run YouTube Music on this device, tap the preferred playlist and choose the shuffle modes? Except of course, through Assistant commands. To be honest, that would be a minimal expectation from a device like this.

Thank you!

Kind regards,

Luminosa

Hey there,

YouTube Music is available in Belgium and should be available in the lists of your music service in the Google Home app. Please try these steps below to check if YouTube music appears as one of the available music services in your country:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Tap account (the customer’s initial or their profile picture).
  3. Verify the Google Account on screen is the one linked to the speaker or display. To switch accounts, tap the down arrow icon and then choose another account or Add another account.
  4. Tap to close the Account window.
  5. Tap Settings.
  6. Tap Add > Service > Music.

Note: For YouTube Music, the account is automatically linked when you set up the display.

Cheers,

Muddi

Hi Muddi,

Thank you for your advice. I have already done this earlier, and here is what I have:

- YouTube Music appears in the Media tab on the display,

- It even has some of my music listed,

- Tapping YouTube Music leads to Quick Picks. Quick picks contains of tracks, some of which are unfamiliar.

So, the question would be whether or not this is the expected flow in the UX?

Kind regards,

Luminosa

Hi Luminosa,

Since this is the first time that you're using your YouTube Music account with your Nest Hub (2nd generation), you can only see recommended music and songs. However, as you continue to listen to music from YouTube Music, your device will become more familiar with your preferences and update the lists accordingly.

Cheers,

Muddi
