Nest Hub (2nd Gen) for home temperature monitoring and alerting

Problem I want to solve; I would like to monitor the temperature of my home/rooom and send an alert via Wifi (when I am not at home or half way across the globe) if the temperature deviates from a pre-set range. I am in the Chicago area where temperatures are much below zero Centigrade/32 F for extended periods of time. If I am traveling, I would like to be alerted if the temperature inside the home starts dropping indicating an issue with the furnace.

I understand this feature is available in the higher versions of Nest Thermostats but my furnace (with variable speed fan) is only compatible with Nest Learning Thermostat which is quite pricey and I dont want to spend that amount of money.

So the choices I am considering are:

-Purchase a wifi enabled thermometer with the above features

- Purchase a Nest Hub as it appears to have its own sensor for room temperature measurement.

Questions: Does the Nest Hub indeed have such a thermometer? (I searched the threads and cannot find an answer for my specific use case)

If it does, can I set alerts and be warned on my phone when I am traveling?

The Nest Hub gen 2 does indeed have a thermometer but it is limited to monitoring the temperature while you sleep.

Ah, this might answer my own question. So you are saying that there is a temperature sensor, but only exactly one app is allowed to access it? Seems silly.

Not only that, but my sleep sensing results don't include any temperature in the report. What am I missing?

This does not look right...

The temperature is located in the upper right corner of the third page of your sleep details report. Swipe right twice on your sleep report after tapping the circle to access sleep details.

Yes, if you read my linked thread, I finally found it about 5 hours ago. 😄

It is indeed strange that the temperature is measured (implying there is a thermometer in the device) but it only works for sleeping.

As feedback to Google - consider my use case and re-purpose the thermometer for other benefits

Hi folks,

I totally understand that these are good features to use with your Nest Hub (2nd Gen), but, these features are not yet available. I'd suggest you submit feedback about it, here's how. Let us know if you have other questions and concerns otherwise, we will be locking this thread after 24 hours.

Best,

Dan
