Nest Hub Bootloop

I wasn't home for a week, and when I returned and turned on my Gen 1 Nest Hub, I was shocked to find it boot looping. I have tried all the steps I have found online (refresh, factory reset through recovery mode) and none of these seem to work. I even tried using an iPhone to set it up after factory resetting it, to no avail.

One thing I have noticed is that after factory resetting it, it goes through the setup process just fine. Then it starts updating, and the update goes fine, it restarts and it's fine. However, once it tries to go onto the main Nest Hub screen after restarting (post update), that's when it just shuts off, tries to restart and goes into the bootloop

One thing I just saw, while it was bootlooping, it did once get on a screen where it showed updating (0%), before it once again shut off and went into the bootloop

Hi aroraakshaj70_,

Please try unplugging the device from the back, then plug it in until you see the 'G' logo then uplug again and wait for 10 seconds before doing the same thing again for ten times.

Regards,
Cathal

I had already tried this, and it didn't work. However, yesterday I had just left it plugged in (forgot to plug it out) and some 12 hours of it just bootlooping, it just... started working. I've started using it again, and I'll reply here again if it starts giving problems again.

Hi everyone,

We appreciate the help here, @Cathal_S.

@aroraakshaj70_, thanks for sharing that information. I’m glad that your Google Nest Hub is now working. I’ll keep this thread open for 3 more days. If you need further help, let me know.

Best,
Alex

Yeah, it's all good now. Works as normal, though I have been facing a separate issue where it keeps going back to light mode randomly (I have it set to dark mode, not auto). I had this before as well, but it was pretty rare, once a week or two. Now, though, it happens about once a day

Hey aroraakshaj70_,

Chiming in, I'm glad to know that your Nest Hub is now working. About the light mode, are you referring to the brightness of the screen?

Cheers,

Muddi

No, I mean the UI background colour. Dark mode/dark theme

I just want to follow up-- have you had the chance to fill out the form?

Not till right now, I'm just filling it out right now.

One thing I also noticed while using it was that it resets to light mode whenever the device is rebooted.
