Nest Hub Camera Feed Not Available

MLC

Our Google Nest Hub has frequent issues playing the video feed from our Google Nest Cameras. Sometimes it plays the video, but there are long stretches where it will only play sound without video.

Our WiFi connection is stellar, the camera feeds play great on other devices, and the Nest Hub does everything else properly. We have tried factory reset and taking it in and out of our home app. Issue still persists.

Hi MLC,

Thanks for reaching out. A few questions: when did it begin? Were there any recent changes made before it started? Are the Nest cameras and your Google Nest Hub covered by your router’s coverage? Are you using a Wi-Fi extender?

I look forward to your response.

Regards,

Juni

Issue started shortly after we purchased the Nest Hub this summer. The Nest Hub and the Nest Cam are both on the WiFi (a Google Nest router system with one Nest extender). I will reiterate that our WiFi connection is superb, the camera feed plays perfectly in our other devices, and the Nest Hub does everything else properly (e.g., streaming video).

Hey MLC,

Thanks for the information. Could you tell us how far your Nest Hub is from your router? Have you tried moving it near the router to see if your device will have the same behavior?

Please check the current firmware version of your Nest Hub. Follow the steps below to learn how:

  1.  Swipe up from the bottom of the display screen.
  2. Tap Settings > About device. You should find your "Cast firmware version."  For Nest Hub (1st gen): If “Fuchsia Version” is also listed, this means your device runs in Fuchsia.

Cheers,

Nest Hub is (and has been) positioned approximately five feet from the router. Cast firmware version is 1.70.377722.

Hi there,

Kindly try doing the troubleshooting steps below:

  • Change the DNS addresses to 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4
  • If IPv6 is on, disable it in the meantime.
  • Toggle the Nest Wifi cloud services off and on.
    • Tap Devices > Wifi > Network settings > Privacy settings.
  • Restart the whole network, Google Nest Hub and the Nest Camera then monitor its behavior when being streamed from the Google Nest Hub device.

Best,
Alex

This sounds complicated and the instructions are not clear. I will try when I have more time.
