Nest Hub Max - Tunein Freezes On K-Love

Martyy
Community Member

I can play K-Love once with TuneIn.  If I change to another station and then "play K-Love" Tunein will launch K-love normally with the album art, etc, then after the Tunin advertisements, it will bring the Tunein splash screen up and freeze.  No matter how many times I repeat K-Love won't play again.

If I reboot either by unplugging or with the Home App K-love will play again .. once.

I also have a regular Nest Hub in a bedroom on the same network and this never happens.

Version is .134

Thanks.

Hi Martyy,

Thanks for reaching out.

I appreciate all the info you've shared. Since you've mentioned that it is only happening on one speaker, let's try first to perform a complete reset to your Google Nest Hub. As soon as it is done, set it up again and try the same commands.

Also, can you provide the cast firmware versions of both speakers so we can have a comparison of those two?

Check the firmware version of your speaker or display

To check which firmware version you're on, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings and then Device information.
  4. Under "Technical information," check for Cast firmware: "X.XXX.XXXXX." If the device is on Fuchsia, check for System firmware version: "X.XXXXXXXX.X.XXXXXXX"

Check the version on your Nest display

  1.  Swipe up from the bottom of the display screen.
  2. Tap Settings and then About device. You should find your "Cast firmware version."
    • For Nest Hub (1st gen) and Nest Hub Max: If “Fuchsia Version” is also listed, this means your device runs Fuchsia.

Looking forward to your response.

Best,

Princess

I did a complete reset and K-Love plays once. Actually this time it played twice and then when I went back it freezes on the tune-in screen where it shouldn't even be there. It should be playing after the album art

Cast Firmware:  1.69.362882

System Firmware:  11.20230306.3.235

That's painful. You can't copy those and paste them.

Hub:  Fuchsia

Hi Martyy,

Thanks for the additional info. Does it only happen on K-Love? What about other radio stations? Let's try to check other radio stations from Tune In so we can isolate the issue further.

Keep me posted.

I tried dozens of stations and daily about half a dozen back and forth but only K-Love acts this way.

New development this morning, now the smaller Nest Hub in my bedroom started doing the same thing!  Plays K-Love once, play another station, come back and "Play K-Love" and after the album art, the forced Tune-In advertisement starts and after that the screen changes to TuneIn's plain blue splash screen. and freezes there.

A side note.  I prefer playing stations on TuneIn despite their annoying ads because of the album art.  But many stations also play on iHeart radio, "Play K-Love On iHeart radio,"  but with a generic screen.  Something changed recently, sort of like when a DNS table is poisoned by a hacker and redirects your web links to their sites, now iHeart plays the wrong station!  Even when I add the call-numbers "Play K-Love 95.5 On iHeart Radio" usually fixed that, but instead Nest says "Playing WZZO 95.1"  Odd, but seems related to Google's calling table, like a DNS, being corrupted.  Just a thought.

Thanks.

Hello there,

I appreciate all the additional info you've provided. Since this is isolated on K-Love station only, have you already tried reaching out to them?

Has anyone else verified this?  I'm still having the K-Love TuneIn freezing issue today.

Thanks.

It still hasn't changed, sigh.

Well, it's been working!  I had written to everyone, K-Love, TuneIn and Google and while I didn't receive an answer that I know of, someone fixed it.  I can now play K-Love without issues.
