Nest Hub Max and Xfinity Steam

JGS1512
Community Member

Hello, anyone find a solution to casting from their Xfinity Steam app (on iOS) to their Google Nest Hub Max?

I just bought a new Nest Hub Max.   The older smaller Nest Hub had no problem streaming from Xfinity to watch live local news, etc.  I bought the larger Max for the screen size, but Chromecast doesn't seem to work for Xfinity with this display.

The Chromecast firmware for the Max is 1.67.330920.  For the smaller Hub, the one that works fine, it is 1.56.324896.

Other apps, such as HBOMax, DisneyPlus, NBCSports, Peacock and FoxSports, all work fine.

I contacted Comcast/Xfinity.  They said the Hub Max isn't supported.  I find this odd since the Hub works fine, and other apps from the same company (Peacock, NBCSports) work fine.

Wondering if this is a problem with the Google Chromecast software, or something Xfinity did or didn't do.

Please help.

Hi JGS1512,

Thanks for bringing this up.

We're sorry to hear about what you're experiencing right now with your brand new Google Nest Hub Max. Since this is only isolated on one device, have you already tried performing a complete reset to it? If not, let's go ahead and try that to see if this would make any diference.

Lastly, it would be very helpful if you can send us a photo or screenshot of the app so we can check on it further what's causing this to happen.

Looking forward to your response.

Best,

Princess

Hi Princess,

Yes, I've reset the device a number of times, but the problem still persists.  My firmware is the same as TheChef posted below.   The smaller Nest Hub works fine - I checked again this morning.  So, it is something unique to the software on the Next Hub Max.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm experiencing this same issue. There seems to be a compatibility issue with the Xfinity Stream app and the Google Nest Hub Max. For the past 2 months or so, I'm unable to cast from the app to my Nest Hub Max. There is a thread on the Xfinity forum with about 12 other users experiencing the same issue. They went through all the recommended troubleshooting steps and it still persists.

When attempting to cast, it fails and displays the error code "Something went wrong. Please try again.  (TVAPP-00100)"

I'd really like to see Google and Xfinity work with each other to ensure that the Xfinity app works with the Nest Hub Max.

Hey TheChef,

Sorry to hear about that. To confirm, have you tried resetting your Nest Hub Max? Is it working before? Also, what is the current version of your Nest display?

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the display screen.
  2. Tap Settings (gear icon) > About device. You should find your 'Cast firmware version'. If 'Fuchsia version' is also listed, this means that your device runs Fuchsia.

Keep us posted.

Cheers,

Hi Muddi,

I tried resetting the Nest Hub Max and that did not fix the issue. Yes, before February of this year, I was able to stream content from Xfinity Stream to the device. The current firmware version is as follows:

Chromecast firmware version: 1.67.330920

Fuchsia Version: 9.20221010.3.176

The Nest Hub Max and Xfinity Stream are devices that offer a variety of features to enhance your home entertainment experience. The Nest Hub Max is a voice-controlled smart display  here with a 10-inch HD screen and stereo sound that allows you to make calls, watch movies, and control your smart home devices. It has built-in Google Assistant and Chromecast, so you can easily control your Xfinity Stream service with voice commands. Xfinity Stream is an app that allows you to access your cable TV and On Demand content, as well as live streams from local news and sports. With Xfinity Stream, you can watch your favorite shows and movies on the Nest Hub Max, as well as control your home entertainment from the comfort of your couch.

Agree with Jopas, we've filled out the form, but I haven't heard back from Google as to the source of the problem or what can be done to fix it.  So, not sure why the conversation would be closed as the problem persists.

Hey folks,

Apologies for the delays. To confirm, is the issue only happening when casting Xfinity apps on your Nest Hub Max? Have you tried using voice commands to cast instead? Are you getting a message?

Cheers,

Muddi

You all need to work on your root cause analysis. Multiple people have said they are not able to cast Xfinity Stream to Google Hub Max. from multiple devices (i.e. apple, android, laptop).  Furthermore, Google Hub Max is not longer listed as supported on Xfinity site.  Something happened a few months back Xfinity Stream on Chromecast FAQs - Xfinity Support

we can't cast with voice commande on the apps, not a feature in the app

google know the problem, so why it's so long to resolve the case, 6 months we asking for support.

stop delaing the answers, google just tring to win time

I'm still experiencing the issue as well. No resolution from Google or Xfinity. I'm also seeing a similar error when streaming from HBO Max which I'm signed in to through Xfinity.

I will say I am I a different location with a different Google Nest Hub Max but using the same phone, and some of the channels can be cast but not all of them.

HBO, I pay through Apple. Some shows can cast no problem but some movies get a error message

Any new update?

Any update. The error message now says that Chromecast is not supported on the Google Hub. Max. Good job Google

Same here, Xfinity Stream stopped working several months ago on my nest hub max, it used to work fine.  Now I get the message that playback is not supported on this type of chromecast device.  It does work on the smaller nest hub.  I use the nest hub max to watch the news while cooking dinner.....need to get this solved!

SInce February Xfinity Stream will not cast to my Google Nest Hub Max. It will not cast from either the web or from the mobile app. Every other streaming service casts without issue so this must be an Xfinity issue with the Nest Hub Max. Please look into this and fix this issue.

Hi @Jopas. Are you saying that the Xfinity stream app will cast with the Nest Hub?  Only the nest hub max does not work with xfinity? That is very interesting.

FL_User

My hub works but my nest hub max doesn't.  I get the message that the nest hub max is not supported

Jayk1

I wonder if it is an Xfinity stream issue or a nest hub max issue. Or both.

Jopas

yes, exactly
