Nest Hub and Sirius XM not working : Config-Failed??

sarosi
Community Member

I have been using Sirius XM with my nest hub for years. All of a sudden it stopped working.

You can request to play something from Sirius XM, and the Hub obliges... "Streaming XXXX on Sirius XM..."

The screen then shows that the hub switches to Sirius XM but just before the player launches you can see (VERY briefly)an alert that reads:

"config-failed :0. Could not retrieve receiver configuration, please try again in a few minutes"

I have tried re-linking my Sirius account, unplugging the hub and even the entire wifi network. Nothing seems to fix it.

The hub functions properly on all other fronts (Spotify works etc)

Anyone have any advice here?

thanks

Hi everyone,

Thanks for reporting this to the community. The team is aware and is currently investigating this issue. To help the team further look into this, kindly turn on device usage data and crash reports. Reproduce the issue by asking your Google Nest speaker/display to play a station on SiriusXM, then give it a voice command to send feedback using the keywords “GHT3 Sirius XM stop streaming."

Please keep an eye on this thread for further updates. Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for your patience.

Warmly,
Alex

Welp. New bad behavior. The workaround still works but...

When I launch SXM directly on the G device it behaves as expected but only for a few minutes. At that point it stops the channel playing and offers up a variety of video options. 😠

I guess this should be a new thread here but it also it feels like a hangover from the original handshake/authentication problem.

Check this thread:

It describes the problem and temporary workaround.

Issue is still going on in the US. It will start on the Google Home hub then play for 20 to 25 minutes, then stop and show a video playlist recommendations for you. Asking it to start playing again, it plays for about five minutes and does the same thing.

Wasn't working at all about a week ago, and after about two days it started magically working again (I'm guessing Google pushed out a fix) but now the streaming cuts out randomly, sometimes as quickly as only a couple seconds after starting. I will tell my smart speaker to stream a SiriusXM channel, it acknowledges and begins the stream, and then about halfway through the song the streams ends abruptly. It does this repeatedly every time I restart the stream. About once out of every ten times I restart it I'll get lucky and it'll stream for upwards of 15 to 30 minutes but it always eventually cuts out. This has always been a problem dating back years for me but at least it only stopped after a few hours; seems like since whatever changes were done recently this problem has increased exponentially. Very frustrating.

Try starting it from your phone/tablet then cast to your speaker. This seems to work and not crash out after a song or two.

SiriusXM just stopped playing on my Google Home. I have both a nest hub and a mini. When requesting a SiriusXM station I get the response "Something went wrong. Try Again." This issue just cropped up yesterday. I ahd the same issue months ago and then it magically fixed itself.
Is this a software update issue? Is anyone lookinginto this?

This just started happening to me as well. Two days ago. I’ve factory reset my nest and the problem is still happening. Thanks for posting. Hoping we can escalate this.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for posting—let's get this sorted out. Have you tried asking Google Assistant on your phone to play SiriusXM to see if it works? How about casting from the SiriusXM app to your Google Home devices? Try to unlink and relink your SiriusXM account, and then reboot your Google Home devices. Let me know how it goes.

Regards,
Alex

Thanks. The issue resolved itself, just like Edbank mentioned below.

Glad to see resolution for others.

This just happened with me in Canada. I unlinked/linked my SiriusXM account in Home, rebooted devices, etc. I can stream other services and cast SiriusXM from my phone. The one additional bit of information I can provide is the error message that appears briefly on my Hub:

"config-failed : 0

Could not retrieve receiver configuration, please try again in a few minutes"

This may auto resolve for me as well but so far, no joy. So casting it is for now.

This just happened to me, even though it was working earlier today. Same error message you got. This is extremely frustrating.

Siriusxm starts and then suddenly stops!  All the suggestions DO NOT WORK!  Google needs to work with Siriusxm and find a solution with this.  This has been a problem reported all over the internet.  Please fix it.

I absolutely concur. This same problem surfaced over a year ago.

The issue resolved itself today with no interaction on my part.

Just checked my hub and it played with no issue and no interaction on my part either. Thanks for commenting again, or else I would have rebooted and unlinked for the millionth time this week.

Hi Alexa, please see DaleN’s comment above. I just received the same error message, even though I was able to play music earlier today.

To reiterate, the problem  only resolved itself for one day.

I have been having the same issue, two nest mini speakers.  Sirius XM will play for several songs and then stop. Sometimes it will drop immediately or during the first song.  I have rebooted both and unlinked and relinked Sirius XM. Still have the same problem. It started about two weeks ago and would play about a half hour before dropping. The last few days it has gotten progressively shorter as described above.

This is not fixed - I am still having problems.  Sirius XM will only play 20 seconds and then stop.    I have linked/unlinked rebooted and sent a feedback.   After I sent feedback I can't play Sirius from my phone now either.   PLEASE FIX THIS

I am having the same problem.  Unlinked and relinked several times.  But I get "Playing xxx on Sirius XM" and then SILENCE.

Same Sirius XM problem started yesterday for me.  None of the recommended fixes will work.

After fixing itself, mine went on the fritz again last night

Happening to me.  Starts streaming then after several minutes it stops. Help!!…

Same here. Worked a week or so ago for a day or two, now back to stopping streaming after a few minutes. Only seems to be an issue with SiriusXM.

I can no longer play SiriusXM directly from the smart speaker. It was working fine as of 2 days ago. When I request to listen to anything on SiriusXM through the smart speaker the assistant voice responds with "now playing Sirius XM" as it normally does however after that it's silent and there is no music or radio. I have tried all the troubleshooting steps the advisor suggested. Unplugged all the speakers, replugged them, reconnected them to wifi. I also unlinked and relinked my SiriusXM account several times through the Home app. I even deleted the home profile and re created the home through the Home app. The same behavior still exists. The assistant language is set to English US.

The only way to listen is to cast it directly from the SiriusXM app to the smart speakers. However, requesting the speaker to play the channels no longer works. This is irrespective of channel being requested on SiriusXM.

Again the speaker responds that it will play the channel that I requested however the channel never comes on. Just silence. Again, it was working fine as of two days ago.

Exact same problem the last two days. It's happened before and resolved itself when Google realizes it's them and not SiriusXM

Exact same problem here too! Please, Google, notice and resolve this!

Same! I found a bunch of posts from this same thing happening in late April, but appears to have been fixed by Google within a day or two. Google, please fix!

I am having the exact same problem. This started 2 days ago.  I never had an issue before trying to stream Sirius XM thru my google home speakers.

Same here. Was working a few days ago and now it is silence....

Same here. Not sure but Sirius has changed it's app on the 14th.

I have the same issue and tried all the recommended actions and still unresolved.  Can play by casting from my phone to speakers or Spotify and YouTube Music.  Google please fix or send info on how to fix.
