Nest Hub and Sirius XM not working : Config-Failed??

sarosi
Community Member

I have been using Sirius XM with my nest hub for years. All of a sudden it stopped working.

You can request to play something from Sirius XM, and the Hub obliges... "Streaming XXXX on Sirius XM..."

The screen then shows that the hub switches to Sirius XM but just before the player launches you can see (VERY briefly)an alert that reads:

"config-failed :0. Could not retrieve receiver configuration, please try again in a few minutes"

I have tried re-linking my Sirius account, unplugging the hub and even the entire wifi network. Nothing seems to fix it.

The hub functions properly on all other fronts (Spotify works etc)

Anyone have any advice here?

thanks

Hi everyone,

Thanks for reporting this to the community. The team is aware and is currently investigating this issue. To help the team further look into this, kindly turn on device usage data and crash reports. Reproduce the issue by asking your Google Nest speaker/display to play a station on SiriusXM, then give it a voice command to send feedback using the keywords “GHT3 Sirius XM stop streaming."

Please keep an eye on this thread for further updates. Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for your patience.

Warmly,
Alex

Just posted this in a similar but perhaps not identical thread elsewhere in this Community.

This just happened with me in Canada. I unlinked/linked my SiriusXM account in Home, rebooted devices, etc. I can stream other services and cast SiriusXM from my phone. The one additional bit of information I can provide is the error message that appears briefly on my Hub:

"config-failed : 0

Could not retrieve receiver configuration, please try again in a few minutes"

This may auto resolve for me as well but so far, no joy. So casting it is for now.

Any updates Jill? Are the devs at G/N & SXM making any headway?

New bad behavior though seems more of a SXM problem.

Using the workaround (because requesting SXM on a G device still fails) and casting from the SXM app, my phone (Pixel 2xl) drops me out of the app, screen goes black/blank then the lock screen appears. This behavior does not manifest when using my Samsung tablet.

UPDATE: Breakthrough?

While the workaround (casting) seems to be broken at the moment, on a lark I tried making a verbal request to my Hub and, what do you know, it seems to be working flawlessly though the interface seems simplified. There's no manual channel switching, but I can live with that.  Automations also seem to function appropriately.

New behavior. Tried the casting SXM from phone to G/N Hub workaround which has been working flawlessly since the problem was first reported a month ago. All I get is the SXM logo as shown. Feedback reported using the keyword tags provided in the recommended answer.

So as of this moment, no way to get SXM to play on G/N devices unless someone else has a workaround.

BTW, no updates to SXM or G/N firmware.

Same here for both my nest hubs. I saw SiriusXM released a new app today, which is probably why: https://thedesk.net/2023/12/siriusxm-new-smartphone-app-download/

We obviously need an application update for nest hubs.

Looks like we may need to wait for Google to push a firmware update - looks like the last one was from 12/6:

https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7365257?hl=en#zippy=%2Ccurrent-production-firmware-vers...

Update: I called Google One and they did not appear to know about the issue. I asked how I can let the developers know. I was told you can say "Hey Google, leave feedback" to your device and then tell them about your issue. So, the more people who do, the better.

Thanks. An additional interesting(?) tidbit. After playing my cast stream for a while my Hub took over the SiriusXM stream. I was able to switch channels via the Hub touchscreen. It continued to play while my phone app was closed. 🤷‍♀️

That would indicate that the issue is with the authentication handshake from the hub when  siriusxm starts streaming. If it already authenticated it on your phone and then the hub took it over, then the hub would not need to do the authentication. You would expect the unlink/link to work, but the hub would still have the old authentication method in the 12/6 firmware.

actually,  looking at the error like the hub cannot locate the siriusXM endpoint to connect to. I am assuming it must have moved. from the codebase on GitHub (in case any developer is reading this):

2020-12-17 13:28:45 DEBUG (Thread-27) [pychromecast.socket_client] [Kevin Office Speaker(192.168.100.30):8009] Received unknown namespace: Message urn:x-cast:siriusxm-chromecast from c2845c97-7ca8-47be-9225-63e1e4d987fe to sender-0: {'data': {'message': 'API call: making call to get/configuration Request {"url":"https://player.siriusxm.com/rest/v2/experience/modules/get/configuration?app-region=US&result-templa...","api":{"endpoint":"get/configuration","version":"v2","error":{"MESSAGE":"Could not retrieve receiver configuration, please try again in a few minutes.","TYPE":"config-failed","TIME":60,"INFORM_SENDER":true},"failureIsFatal":true,"retry":false}}'}, 'type': 'log'}

Hopefully that's enough for the Nest/SiriusXM elves to sort it out.

your work around works Dale! I let SiriusXM development know about the issue with the firmware update needed so they can put pressure on google to push a new firmware update.

I'm not seeing a new release on my end. I've done all the suggestions in this feed and still no connection.

Same issue here. Streaming was okay up until this morning around 9am eastern time then everything stopped. I say the same prompt to stream from whatever channel I want to listen to and Google Next acknowledges it, briefly shows it attempting to play in the app but then abruptly stops. Went through all the standard troubleshooting: reboot devices, reset configure, factory reset, unlink relink accounts, etc. nothing works. Tagging this thread to see when an update is available.

Same issue here, Sirius XM stopped streaming today. Hopefully Google is working on this and a fix will be downloaded shortly.

Based on the research by NestHub2023 earlier in the thread it seems like SiriusXM moved the doorway without notifying Google. Or, it could be a geographic issue working find in the US but not Canada.

DaleN

Confirmed the issue exists in the US as well. So moving the doorway seems to be the issue.

Still not working correctly but some behavior clarification. What launching SXM on my Hub, the Sirius splash screen displays the briefly shows the "Videos recommended for you" page before continuing on to the requested channel.

When the app crashes it returns to this same "Videos recommended for you" screen.

I've had the device forward feedback using the keywords noted in the Best Answer but I suspect that doesn't show the weird behavior at launch.

Following - same issue.  I need my holiday music!  😉

DaleN

As noted earlier, you can start it on your phone and cast it. After a few minutes(?) you can stop the app on your phone and it will continue on your G device.

The Holidays are Saved! 😁

Following. I’m having the exact same issue with the same error reported as above. I’m  casting the SiriusXM app to the Google Nest to see if the Nest takes over at some point as reported above. So far the workaround is working.

Eric68

Same issue. Worked until today (12/14). I'm in the US. Same behavior, once I start casting to it from my phone, it takes over & works. So agree, it seems like an issue with the authentication endpoint. I also did the "leave feedback" option.

Sounds like we’re waiting for an update from Google.

Workaround by going into SXM app in iPhone and playing.   Then cast to my Google Home devices.

The same exact thing happened to our google nest hub yesterday!!! I hope there’s a fix!

DaleN

Don't know if you saw the workaround earlier in this ever expanding thread.

Start SXM on your phone or tablet then cast to your G device. You will be able to stop the app on your phone after a few minutes or so.

That's the way I've started streaming this. I try to set my mini to play for 90 minutes and cannot do that while streaming from my phone. Very frustrating.

Tried that. It won’t cast to the hub nor the access points.

Already did this. Hopefully a solution will be soon.

I can cast it from my phone to the house speakers at this point but cannot access directly through my mini or home devices

Thanks.

Just sent feedback after trying Sirius, per your instructions above

Streaming SiriusXM via Google Home on my Nest Mini has worked fine over the last year.  Recently, however  (and after downloading the new SiriusXM app), it will only stream on the Nest Mini (after my voice command) for ~30 seconds and then stop.

12/26/23 Started experiencing the same problem within the last two weeks where after launching SiriusXM, the music just stops and it’s progressively gotten worse.   It began shutting down 10-15 minutes after starting now it’s shutting down after 30 seconds or so.  I’ve tried unplugging, rebooting, etc. it’s happening on multiple devices and is really frustrating.

Same. Totally frustrating. Argh!

I am consistently having issues with Google Nest staying connected with Sirius XM Radio!  This has been going on for 6 day's.

I tried again for 20 times and Sirius XM starts playing on Google Nest Speakers then quits.  Reporting to "GHT3 Sirius XM stop streaming"

Same issue as of 12/20. After streaming SirusXM for 8-10 minutes on Google Home Hub it is just dropped!!

Reinstalled both the Sirus App and Sirus on my Google device. No improvement.

Aes316

Any updates?  It is still either saying it will play and never start. Or will start and turn off within a few seconds

Same issue.  Tried resetting Hub and speakers and unlinking and relinking SiriusXM.  Plays for a short while, then stops.  I do think it is a Google Home issue because the SiriusXM app works fine on my phone.
