Nest Hub not responding to voice commands

herrybrook787

Hi,
My Nest Hub has stopped responding to "Hey Google" commands. The screen is on and it’s connected to Wi-Fi, but there’s no voice response unless I touch the screen.

I’ve tried restarting the device and checked the microphone settings — still no change.

Has anyone else faced this issue? Any working fix?

Thanks!

When you say "checked microphone settings" you meant that the microphone switch is slid to on?

Rebooting through the Google Home app is another option.

A factory reset might be required.

Hi @herrybrook787

Thank you very much for contacting this community! I understand that your Nest Hub isn't responding when you say "Hey Google." I really appreciate the time you took to verify that the screen is on, it's connected to Wi-Fi, and that you've already reset it. Don't worry, I'm here to help!

To provide you with specific troubleshooting steps, I would like to ask you a few questions.

  • Which Nest Hub model do you have? (e.g., Google Nest Hub, Google Nest Hub (2nd gen) or Google Nest Hub Max)
  • What color is the LED status light at the back of the device?
  • How long did the device work as intended before you experienced this symptom?
  • Does the same issue occur when others speak to the speaker or display?
  • What kind of environment does the device fail in? Examples: Is the environment noisy, normal, or quiet.

At the moment, I would like to attach some troubleshooting steps that might help you.

  • Verify if the device's microphones are not blocked.
    • For Google Nest Hub, Google Nest Hub (2nd gen), and Google Nest Hub Max: Ensure that the two microphones on top of the device are not covered.
  • Make sure your device is connected correctly to the power outlet.
  • Verify if the display is not muted.
    • You have to press or toggle the mute button or switch on the back of the device.
    • When you hear the Assistant say that the device is muted, check if the LED lights indicate that the device is muted and press it again to unmute the device.
  • Verify if you used the voice command correctly and within range:
    • You get within 3 to 5 feet of the display and say "Okay Google" or "Hey Google."
    • Confirm if the LEDs turn on.

@SmartHomeH-TAGS, I appreciate those recommendations; that information is important to know!

Please feel free to share any additional details you think might be relevant.

Best regards,
Eduardo
