Nest Hub not singing “brush your teeth song”

Patiekuhr
Community Member

We’ve become fond of asking Google to sing the “brush your teeth” song but as of last night it is no longer working. It’s trying to find a song on the internet instead of singing the native song on the speaker.

Hi folks,

@Patiekuhr, @statgab, we're sorry to hear that asking Google to play the “brush your teeth” song isn't working. Let's check it out. A few questions: when you ask your Nest Hub to play that song, what comes up as an option? Should it be playing from YouTube Music?

It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router followed by your Nest Hub.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes tops.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Dan

My kids miss it too.  It's not working on any device (hub, mini, or pixels) for a few weeks.  Seems like it's gone altogether.

Hello everyone,

Apologies for the delayed response. Aynniebell and ChrisE1, I'm sorry that you're also experiencing the same concern. I have tried again the command "Hey Google, sing the brush your teeth song" on our test device and it worked. It's a video of a big tooth with a big toothbrush, just like in the video on the link provided by Patiekuhr above.

It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router followed by your Nest speakers.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes tops.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.

After the reboot, try the command again and tell me how it goes.

Kind regards,

Dan

Hey folks,

Sorry for the delays. To confirm, does the same issue happen when you use the Google Assistant app on your phone? Also, are these happening to all speakers or just on displays only?

Keep us posted.

Cheers,
Muddi

Hey everyone,

A quick update. Our team would like to investigate the issue further, and we need your help. Please make sure to send feedback right after you experience the issue with your speakers.

Follow these steps below to know-how:

  1. Make a voice command using the Google Nest Hub speaker to play "Brush your teeth".
  2. Whether it works or not, immediately submit a feedback by saying "Okay Google, submit feedback" then say, "GHT3 Brush your teeth not working."

Get the firmware version of the speaker by doing the following steps:

  1. Swipe up from the display
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Tap "About device"
  4. Get the Google Home app version.

Let us know once done.

Cheers,
Muddi

Hey everyone,

Chiming in-- has anyone tried the steps posted above? Kindly confirm if you're done submitting a feedback so we can let the team know.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Princess

Yes, we've tried to send feedback a few times, but it doesn't appear to follow the right system to submit. I wasn't prompted at all for the firmware version, but did my best to speak it as quickly as possible during the initial "listen" for the issue. Submitting feedback doesn't let me edit the problem as Google heard it, which makes it difficult when there's a song playing (still not the correct song) and the submit feedback prompt only gives a few seconds of "listening" time to say all of the letters and numbers!

I submitted the feedback twice from our nest hub.

Rebooting does not work! I rebooted all NINE of my Google devices I'm telling you the song is GONE!

Rebooting does not work! I rebooted all of my Google devices (I have 9) and Google acts like she has no clue what I'm talking about. The reply I get "I'm sorry, I don't understand."

Sorry working mom of five here, I get a tad busy at times. Rebooting does NOT fix the issue. I rebooted all NINE of my Google devices and I have the same issue.  If you do a simple Google search you'll see thousands of us are having this same issue.

Hi Jake and Dan,

the command being used is “hey google, sing the brush your teeth song” and it used to open to a song and animation that was native to the Hub with a little tooth dancing and singing the song. Now Google is replying “I don’t know but i found these results on search”.

Hi Patiekuhr,

Thanks for trying the steps. Could you try saying, "Ok Google, talk to toothbrush timer". Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Princess

That does launch a toothbrushing timer, but it's not the timer that has a song that we used to use for my son. This is what used to come up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2HbchtgUZs when we said "Hey Google, sing the brush your teeth song"

Hi Patiekuhr,

Thanks for the link you sent. "Ok Google, talk to toothbrush timer" is pretty much the same thing as the one you sent. It also has timer on it however, it doesn't have any videos showing on the screen. In line with this, I'd like to ask you to send a feedback regarding this. You may check this link for instructions: https://goo.gle/2NvQG6R

Reboot didn't work unfortunately.  It's still "sorry, I don't understand"

I did this as well and while yes it does start a toothbrush timer of two minutes, it is NOTHING like the song for kids that use to play. If you're an adult and want the timer and have it remind you to change locations in your mouth every 30 seconds, that's great, but that is NOT what we were talking about. It's a song "Brushing your teeth go up and down and side to side...". I'll get a link for a YouTube video of it and post shortly. On Nest it'd play a video and the song. On the speakers it would play the song. It's not through a third party app it was through Google. There used to be a "clean up" song and a "good night song" and a "wash your hands song". There were a ton that my kids loved and built routines around.

Aynniebell
Community Member

This was a song by Google, not through a third party. You used to be able to say "hey Google, play the brush your teeth song" on any Google device and it's play it. There was a bedtime song and a clean up song too. Then one poof! GONE! Google your killing us parents with kids who built routines with your songs! Fix it!!

Hi Dan,

it looks like my reply didn’t come through.

I agree that the command “talk to toothbrush timer” is similar, but it’s not the same as what the original command gave, was sort of like when you ask google to sing Happy Birthday and it does, and an animation plays.

I did submit feedback through the Home app.

I posted a lot of replies above, but wanted to be sure you saw. The reboot doesn't work. The "talk to the toothbrush timer" is a boring timer for adults, not the song for kids and it is NOTHING like what the YouTube link plays that's been shared on this thread.

I have. No improvement.

We're struggling with the same problem across multiple devices (google nest hub, google mini, pixel, Android phone). We've rebooted each device and even reset our entire Google home network. No matter which command prompt we give - "Hey Google, help me brush my teeth" or "Hey Google, sing the brush your teeth song" - we get a response of "Sorry, I don't understand" or search results from the web.

We've tried to do a workaround of playing a YouTube video that someone recorded of the Google song, but even that only works about 40% of the time. The cleanup song and bedtime song are also missing.
