Nest Hubs on a Unifi system is having DHCP issues

I have a Unifi UDMSE and 4 of their access points. It's actually a fresh setup as they sent me a warranty replacement to try and resolve this issue. I setup the system as new and am pretty well versed as I've been managing these systems for around 5 years.

The issue comes when the Nest hubs (1st gen, 2nd gen, and Nest Hub Max) go to renew their DHCP lease. This process gradually brings down the system where one or more or all of the APs go offline. The more that renew in a short period of time the faster it all comes to a halt. I have even lowered the lease expiration to say an hour to reproduce this issue and can do so every single time after resetting the APs. All I have to do is unplug the Nest's and the problem immediately goes away.

Anyone else on Unifi, particularly the UDMSE or UDM maybe? Not sure if the problem will go beyond that.

After working on this for almost two months, I have a fix (maybe work-around is the better description).  I have no idea what the Nest displays are doing that brings Unifi APs to their knees, but these are the steps to prevent that from occurring:

  1. Enable DHCP Snooping under Settings - Networks - Global Switch Settings.
  2. Enable DHCP Guarding for the network/VLAN containing your Nest displays, adding the IP of the DHCP server for that network as a "trusted DHCP server IP" (IP of the Gateway usually, unless you have setup.something else)

False alarm. I created a separate vlan for my home devices, including the Nest displays, from the Unifi mgmt network. This has prolonged the time it takes for the APs to come crashing down when the displays are renewing their lease. Unfortunately, it still happens.

I called Google support and they refused to assist and told me to upgrade my 1gig symmetrical internet connection. Displays on the network...APs going offline. Displays off the network...internet/wifi goes on indefinitely.

This is a lot like the support provided for the Nest cam fiasco that has plagued them over the last six months.

More Kudos to Google....
