Nest Mini losing place in podcast, and episode when saying "Hey Google, resume podcast".

zzubnik
Community Member

In the last few days, the command "Hey Google, resume podcast" does not result in picking up where I stopped. It goes to a point in a previous episode. the same point every time no matter what I do. I have tried skipping episodes, letting it play for a couple of hours, unplugging the unit, but no matter what I do, it goes back to a specific point in a specific episode. It is quite maddening, as the series has hundreds of episodes, and I can't remember which one I was on, or how far through.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am old, on my own, and rely on the Nest mini to keep me entertained.

Thank you.

Yeah, Spotify started to have issues with me previously. No problems at the moment though.

I can't see why Google can't just fix it, it must be bugging them too, as surely they use Google Podcasts and it must annoy them too.

Maybe Google Podcasts will be integrated with Youtube Music, rather than being a separate app, and they're letting the Podcasts app die a slow and painful death.

I think you're right. It's odd that it worked for a while with Spotify, but now that's messing up too.

I have the same problem.  It has made listening to long podcasts very frustrating.  Why hasn't this been fixed?

So, I started this thread after being completely unable to get the same podcast functionality from the product. Switching the default to Spotify did help in terms of picking up from where I left off. That said, I am completely disappointed by Google and remain thoroughly embarrassed that I got behind their products. Sounds like others have similar experiences. What an incredibly frustrating thing to have one of the largest tech companies on earth fail to support their products. My guess is that 1) Google doesn’t care about their audio stuff (and why would they) so long as you bought the thing and 2) don’t really need you or me to use it as it is their “side hustle” at best. This is an advertising company after all and they could care less if I use their podcast service or speakers in the short run. But here’s the thing: I’ve used android based phones for almost 8 years now; my awful experience with their products and support is the sole reason I am writing this reply on my new iPhone and I have no intention of buying Google products again. This short run non-concern for them has cost a user in the long term. And with that said I’ll probably complete my next search on Google and they won’t care one way or the other. We don’t matter to Google.

I'm dumping the Google Nest Mini.  Will likely still keep my Google Nest Hub (video) in my kitchen because I only use that for weather, news, and recipes.
For what it's worth, I have several of Amazon's Echo devices, and they work with Podcasts really well. Will likely replace the GNM with an Echo Dot. Amazon defaults to using Audible for podcasts and Audible is the absolute BOMB when it comes to sync'ing across devices (it even syncs my audiobooks with their e-book counterpart if I have both.)

Google let me down.  I've easily wasted more time trying to get Google to work than the value of the Amazon replacement.  Just gonna be done with this soon.

I see that there is no effort to fix this.  I have Google mini and Alexa.  Alexa has no problem with podcast sync so will have to stop using Google for podcasts  Disappointing!

Replaced Google Nest Mini with Echo Dot.  Works great for Podcast, and bonus! It works with my Audible audio books as well.  Will not be looking at Google home devices again.

I am disappointed the Google does not stand by its own product.

Same issue here since last year. Google product functionality continually deteriorates. Really frustrating as podcast playing is the primary reason I bought so many of these boxes.

And now my Google Nest Hub (video) is failing to complete it's moringing news briefing. Wifi is fine, works for music and specified youtube videos, but their aggrigate of video news just hasn't been delivering consistently for about a month now.  Gets to the video portion, and just spins. So Google has just abandoned support for anything more than a couple of years old?  They are the company of product abandonment.

Sometimes it refuses to play news. Sometimes it plays after 2 or 3 requests. Sometimes it starts then shuts off. Often there is a long delay before a request. Frustrating

Try going to settings in the home app, then web activity, and turning on save activity for apps, specifically your podcast app

Hi folks,

Thanks for your responses.

@PodListener, @Laupsavea, we're sorry about this. Have you already tried to play a different podcast title to see if you are also experiencing the same thing?

@LeonUK, big thanks for helping and suggesting some steps.

Let us know if there are any changes you notice so we can check on it further.

I mean we all still have the issue and the basic suggestions have not fixed the problem.

I think the reason there has been no activity is because none of the solutions suggested have worked, so people like me have given up using Google Nest for listening to podcasts. Your contribution, although welcome, came nearly a year after the thread was started.

Totally agree. Another failed product.

Hi folks,

Apologies for the inconvenience that this has caused you. If reset has been done and trying a different podcast title still won't work, could you please provide the cast firmware version of your Google Nest speakers?

To check which firmware version you're on, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings and then Device information.
  4. Under "Technical information," check for Cast firmware: "X.XXX.XXXXX." If the device is on Fuchsia, check for System firmware version: "X.XXXXXXXX.X.XXXXXXX"

Princess

It's only inactive because we are giving up.  This is still an issue but there is no solution from Google.

LeonUK

Totally right, there's no desire from Google corporate to fix this.
