Nest Mini vs Pixel 7 Pro voice response

Inquisitive1

My Nest Mini responds to Hey Google and Okay Google voice prompts, except when my new Pixel 7 Pro intervenes or tries to intervene. The Pixel 7 Pro does this even when its screen is dark or when it is slumbering. Can I get the Nest to respond to a nickname other than the standard greetings?

Hi Inquisitive1,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community.

This is not the experience that we wanted you to have, let me help you out. A few things: Are you using the same email address on your phone’s Google assistant and Google Home app? Is the Google app installed on your phone updated? You can check the steps below on how to update it.

  1. On your phone, open the Google app Search Icon.
  2. At the bottom right of the Home screen, tap More More and then Settings and then About.
  3. Look for the version number at the top.
  4. If your version is below 6.5, go to the Google app page, then tap Update.

Check this link to get more information.

Also, changing the hotword “Hey Google” or “Okay Google” to a different one is a feature that is not supported at the moment. We're always looking for ways to improve. I'd suggest you submit feedback about it, here's how.

Keep me posted.

Regards,

Juni

Thanks.

The Nest Mini is mostly responsive to my voice queries, but sometimes my Pixel 7 Pro interrupts even when it is locked.
The phone will interrupt a question intended for the Nest, and it will say "Okay, but you have to unlock me first."
This action by the phone stops the Nest from responding.

Hi Inquisitive1,

Thanks for the response. Were you able to update the Google app on your phone and confirm that you are using the same Google account on your phone’s Google assistant and Google Home app? If so and your phone is still responding when near your Nest Mini,  you can try to do a sequential reboot. First, unplug your Nest speakers and your phone for 30 seconds, then do the same thing to your Wi-Fi router to refresh both devices and your Wi-Fi signal.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Juni

Unplug the Nest speaker and reboot the WiFi seems doable.

Not sure about unplugging the phone but I can turn it off and on.
