Nest Minis will not re-connect to wifi

Xpawn
Community Member

Hi

I have 2 Nest minis that has been connected to this router before. some months ago they simply dropped off the wifi and I never got them re-connected. Deleted them in Google Home.

I try setting them up in Google Home (newest version), they are discovered, i set them up with the correct wifi network etc... then i get an error stating "Connection problem during setup"

I have tried resetting (turning the mic off, holding the center until all 4 leds light up and i get the "jingle"

Also tried the "hard reset" by plugging it in, waiting for all 4 lights to turn on, then unplugging... repeated 10 times more. Tried setting up with the microphone disabled and enabled

I have the same router, same ISP, nothing has changed. I also have 2 Nest Hub (gen 1) that works perfectly fine.

Both the Nest Bubs and Nest Minis was setup at the same time initially.

I disconnected my router for 1 hour, reset the minis, disabled lots of devices that normally connect to the wifi. Still not working. the minis actually connect to the wifi, seeing as they get ip-addresses from the DHCP-server.

i have also tried with uPnP both enabled and disabled. right now i have 2 bricks, since they apparently both have bluetooth and wifi working but they refuse to connect

Hi everyone,

@RachelGomez123, thanks for helping.

@Xpawn, we appreciate you trying to fix the concern by doing those troubleshooting steps. Let's rule out the possibility that it has something to do with the network. Set up your Nest Mini using a mobile hotspot. Follow the steps below.

  1.  Phone 1 open hotspot.
  2. Phone 2 connects to Phone 1 hotspot.
  3. Phone 2 download Google Home app.
  4. Factory data reset your Google Nest speaker.
  5. Setup Nest Mini using Phone 2 and use hotspot as a source of network.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Juni

.. I tried a phone hotspot, not working. I also tried a 4G Router with simcard, no go

By some miracle I got ONE speaker actually connected, but when i moved it to the correct location it lost connection when turned on (Setup very close to the router, then moved to where i want it). Currently it is added but disconnected in Google Home. Feels like they are blacklisted or are refused to conenct by some means

Still didnt get them connected, even tried a different ISP + router, with another user. seems odd that both the bluetooth and wifi is still connectable. Will continue trying, tho

I bought them in Norway, at an approved retailer, last year (2021). i am currently in Mongolia for a long stay, and have a need for those speakers. They connected on the first try at the end of september last year, when i arrived here, and i still have 2 Nest Hub working 100%. they were initially conencted in Norway, due to me being Norwegian and i bought them there, making sure they worked 100% before my trip

Hi Xpawn,

This looks like an issue with your device and needs to be replaced. However, you will need to get a replacement from the store and country where you bought the device because the Nest Mini is not available and supported in Mongolia.

Muddi

Hi Xpawn,

I wanted to follow up and see if you are still in need of any help. Please let me know if you are still having any concerns or questions from here, as I would be happy to take a closer look and assist you further. By the way, while we're at it, could you connect your Google Nest Mini to a mobile hotspot? You'll be 2 phones for this to work. One phone is for the setup and the other is where you connect it via hotspot. This may or may not work depending on the country you're in right now.

Best,

Dan

I already tried phone hotspots and also a 4G mobile router with a sim-card. Also tried another ISP + wifi router. The only thing i really haven't tried is another user account, other than my wife's account. Will try and report back as quickly as possible

Hey there,

What is the message when it fails to set up? Is it on the part where it asks you to connect to WiFi? Also, just a reminder, this may or may not work due to the fact that you are trying to connect your Nest Mini in a country where it's not available and supported.

We really appreciate the effort. We'll be waiting for the conclusion once you've tried a different account.

Thanks,

Dan
