Nest doorbell (wired) does not automatically stream to nest hub when pressed

I think I have the 1st generation wired doorbell (I added it through the nest app and then linked it in the home app).  I have three nest hubs in different rooms and the stream from the doorbell cam doesn't automatically start on any of them when rung.  If I say "hey google, show me the front door camera" it will show me the stream from the doorbell camera and I can talk through the speaker.  But this takes time and half the time the person is walking away by the time I get to the display, say the right words, get connected and actually see the picture.  This automatic streaming used to work (with the same doorbell and displays), but at some point stopped working with no changes on my part that I'm aware of.  I would really like to get this working again as it is one of the main selling features of buying to the two.  In fact in the google store they are even sold in packages as a security bundle.  Wonder if it works for those purchasers?!?

Do you have "Visitor announcements" turned on for your Google Nest Hello Doorbell in the Google Nest app (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7672451)? Do you have "Do not disturb" turned off on your Nest Hubs? If so, what does happen on your Nest Hubs when the doorbell button is pressed?

In the nest app, the visitor announcements is ON.  In the home app my nest hub Do no disturb is OFF.  Just for some added information, in the home app in the doorbell settings, I also have Voice Notifications set to OFF.  This is because in my house I have 10 speakers, 3 hubs and 3 wifi points that would all announce everytime the doorbell rang and it was a cacophony I just couldn't deal with.

@syoung4735

You did not indicate what DOES happen on your Nest Hubs when your doorbell is pressed.

I did not know there was a "Voice Notifications" option in the Google Home app for our Google Nest Hello Doorbells. Ours is turned "ON" (apparently the default, since I've never set it) and we get "Visitor announcements" on all our Nest Hubs as well as a live feed on all of them.

I don't know what is SUPPOSED to happen if you turn ON "Visitor announcements" in the Google Nest app but turn OFF "Voice notifications" in the Google Home app; there seems to be no documentation on the "Voice notifications" option or what it does in conjunction with the "Visitor announcements" option. (There is only this one thread, which does not address what an ON in the Nest app and OFF in the Home app combination does: https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Cameras-and-Doorbells/Sending-door-bell-notifications-to-a-sp....) But perhaps this is why you are not getting a live feed on your Nest Hubs when the doorbell is pressed.

UPDATE:  Just in case someone is reading this later and has the same issue...changing the Voice Notifications to ON in the home app DID cause the video to automatically stream to all of my hub displays.  But now I am back to having the echoing notifications throughout the house, which I think is more intolerable than not having the video automatically stream.  I read some of the other threads where it was mentioned to set all speakers to do not disturb (which I feel like would have other negative side effects) or set up multiple *homes* which also seems like a huge headache.  I guess I will wait until Google comes up with some sort of subscribe or opt in/opt out for notifications to specific speakers or hubs.

Hi folks,

Thanks for the help @MplsCustomer.

@syoung4735, thanks for posting. I’m glad that you are able to stream your doorbell now. For the notification concern you are correct the only option is to turn on the Do Not Disturb feature so other displays will not make a sound when your doorbell is pressed. You can mute reminders, broadcasts, Nest doorbell visitor announcements, and other spoken notifications on Google speakers and displays with Do Not Disturb.

Check this link for more information.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Juni
