Nest/ home mini offline, won't reconnect

Honestly can't remember if it's a nest mini or home mini, I think it's home (no wall mount on back), but it went offline a few days ago and won't reconnect. We've tried unplugging. Sometimes the color lights come on but it makes no sound and shows as offline in the home app.

Hi sjdemo,

This is not the experience we want you to have; let us help you. A few questions: were there any recent changes made to your router? Are all other devices still connected to your Wi-Fi?

It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

  1. Unplug the power cord from your router, followed by your Nest speaker.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.

If the issue persists, kindly follow the steps below to do a factory reset. It should revert your device back to its original settings. You need to set it up again.

  1. On the bottom of Home Mini, press and hold the factory reset button located below the power cord.
  2. Look for a circle etched into the base.
  3. After 5 seconds, your device will begin the factory reset process.
  4. Continue to hold for about 10 seconds more, until a sound confirms that the device is resetting.

Let us know how it goes,

Best,

Dan

It's not a nest mini, it's a home mini. I tried all of those before posting. It would not factory reset; held the button for almost a minute and it never made a sound. Several other posters had similar problems around the same day and we've all been told essentially our devices are too old (warranties expired) so we're hosed.

Hey sjdemo,

Apologies for the inconvenience and thank you for trying. What’s the color of the LED light when doing the factory reset? If there’s a color, is it a single light or all four of them are lit up?

Since the traditional way to reset your Google Home Mini didn't work, you can try these instead:

  1. On the side of the device, unplug the power cord > wait 10 seconds > plug the power cord back in > wait for the 4 LED lights to light up.
  2. Repeat the first step, 10 more times.
  3. On the last attempt, wait for the device to announce "Welcome to Google Home".
  4. Set up the device in the Google Home app.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Dan

The reset only gave one light. It was green or white, I don't remember.

I already tried unplugging, too, and no matter how long I waited, several seconds to minutes, the four lights never came back on.

Hey sjdemo,

Apologies for the delay! May we know where and when you bought your Google Home Mini? Also, please confirm if it's a single green or white light for us to know what steps to take next.

Thanks,

Dan
