Hi all,
A new nest mini speaker is driving me nuts. An initial setup always fails with 'can not link to account' error within the home app.
I'm using my Gmail as account and have a bunch of properly working speakers in my home.
Somehow this seems to be a bug of Google.
Using a new home and try to setup the mini there fails, using different Android devices to setup fails. Removing all family members and using the setup as single user fails.
Factory reset and start over does not change anything. It seems that this new! mini is not able to be used by us?
I'm running out of options now.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
hansj

Does it work if you connect to it's setup Wifi network instead?

Thanks for that, but I was not precise enough. The nest mini is configured partially, it has an IP address and is visible in home. But if you speak to it, it says that you should consult the home app. The next step is to complete the registration, select the mini, assign a room and after that it throws the error that the account can not be linked. Everything stops and you have to close the home app forceful as it hangs...

It sounds like the setup did not complete properly as it should. The best way to resolve that is to factory reset it and set it up again, making sure to fully complete the setup without skipping any steps.

Hi David,
I did factory reset the nest mini (disable mic and long press the top until it resets), then I did delete the remains of the device from my home app.
Adding the now factory reset device fails at configuring nest mini (after confirming the services to be bound, duo calls...). The home app hangs about 2 minutes and then the same Error 'can not link account' appears. Only option is to abort the setup. Or get help...
When you look in the home app, the mini is assigned to a room but appears offline. It is responsive to commands, I can play music, it's connected to wireless/of course!
After a while someone in my family receives an mail that the device has been removed from 'home'. And at that time, the nest responds to question with 'go to the home app for setup' ... Back to square 1

Hi hansj,
I appreciate all the steps you've tried. Do you still remember when and where did you purchase your Google Nest Mini so we can check your warranty options?
