Nest mini defaults to live versions of songs on Apple Music

Hi,

I have noticed my nest mini, as well as B&O devices with "hey Google" capability, default to playing live  versions of many songs instead of the album versions.

Example: if I ask the nest mini to play "Breathe" by Pink Floyd, it plays a live version using Apple Music. If I say play Dark Side of the Moon, it plays the album version of Breathe. There are many examples of the same behavior. Even if i ask it to play the "album version" of "Breathe," it still plays a live recording.

I note that others have complained about the same thing. I have tried unlinking and relinking Apple Music to my account, BTW.

Hi Bxwatso,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I understand your Google Nest Mini (2nd gen) and B&O devices with Google Assistant are playing unintended live versions of songs from Apple Music instead of the album versions. I appreciate the troubleshooting steps you've already taken. No worries, I'm here to help!

To isolate the root cause of this issue, I'd like to know the following:

  • What was the specific voice command you used to play the desired audio content?
  • What's your Google Nest Mini (2nd gen) software version? Please check out the following link for your reference: Google speaker and display firmware versions and release notes
  • Just to confirm, which country are you using your Google Nest Mini (2nd gen) in?

Please keep me in the loop.

Regards,
Juan

1. "OK Google play breathe by pink floyd" plays the live version.

2. system firmware: 491599, cast firmware 3.76.491519

3. USA

Hi Bxwatso,

Thanks for getting back to me! To continue addressing this inconvenience, let's try asking for a song without including the artist. Please use the following voice command:

  • "Hey Google, play breathe."

Please make sure the Google Nest Mini plays the studio recording of a song, not a live version, regardless of whether it's by Pink Floyd, as this is simply a test.

Please let me know how it goes.

Sincerely,
Juan

I did use the voice command "Hey Google, play breathe."

The speaker played "Breathe (2 AM)" by Anna Nalick. It is a studio recording, though (sounds like).

Hi Bxwatso,

Thanks for your continued responses! Now that you've got a studio version of a song, let's try to use a different voice command to troubleshoot this inconvenience. Please use the following voice command:

  • "Hey Google, play breathe by Pink Floyd on Apple Music"

Please let me know if the issue persists, I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,
Juan
