Nest mini not casting to connected chromecast

Our Home mini has stopped casting Netflix or any other streaming service to the Chromecast. I keep getting the error “Sorry, I can't find any devices in your home that can play video”, even though the chromecast is connected on the Home app, and I can cast directly to it from an app or browser. I’ve double checked that they’re still on the same WiFi, and have reset both multiple times. I also fully factory reset the Chromecast device, and am still experiencing the issue. It is also apparently not recognizing the Roku when it is on, either.

Hi Meganm230,

Thanks for posting in the community!

I'm so sorry to hear that your Google Nest Mini is not casting to your Chromecast. Don't worry; I'm here to help! Just to get started, I'd like to confirm some details with you. Can you please help me answer the next questions?

  • Can you describe the steps you take to cast your Google Nest Mini to your Chromecast? Do you use voice commands? If so, what is the exact command you use?
  • What is the model of your Chromecast?
  • Is your Google Nest Mini a first or second generation device?
  • What is the firmware version of your Google Nest Mini?
  • Are the Chromecast and Google Nest Mini set up in the same home within the Google Home app?

In the meantime, if you have more questions for me, feel free to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist further!

Best regards,

Nery.

Hi Nery -

1. I use the voice command “play (show title) from (streaming service) to the (specific device as named in google home”. I’ve tried several different shows, streaming services, and even changing to just calling it “the chromecast” to see if it would make a difference. This voice command has worked perfectly in the past.
2. It is a first gen chrome cast, but not the absolute earliest model, if that makes sense.
3. I’m pretty sure it’s a first gen nest mini, it’s about three or four years old.
4. Firmware version is 420420. Cast firmware version is 3.73.420420.
5. They are both in the same home within the app (there is only one possible home).

if it helps, the cast firmware for the chromecast is 1.36.159268

Hi Meganm230,

Thanks for your reply and for providing this useful information!

Here's a troubleshooting step:

  • Say, "Hey Google, sync all my devices" to your Google Nest Mini. This sometimes helps devices discover each other.

A few additional questions:

  • Have there been any recent changes to your Wi-Fi network or router?
  • Has there been a recent power outage?
  • Can the Google Nest Mini play music from other services like Spotify without any issues?

I hope this helps! If you have more questions for me, feel free to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist further!

Best regards,

Nery.
