Nest mini playing music casting from phone automatically

Quartz

I love using my Google home mini  to play music as I have YouTube premium and can request specific songs.

This seems to work fine most of the time (sometimes my assistant enabled Bose speaker downright refuses to play explicit requests no matter the filter settings but I'm not asking about that device or problem), but around a month ago or so every time I asked for a song and then went to the YouTube music app from my phone I found that the music playing was being cast from my device.

This isn't a huge issue but it never happened before and it becomes a problem when I want to use my phone to play music either in earbuds or just using my built in speakers. Anything I do in the YouTube music app affects what is playing on the home speaker.

If I choose to stop casting the speaker stops playing music altogether. The only way I've found around this is to already be using the YouTube music app on my phone when I ask the home to play something, but as soon as I pause the music on my phone for more than a few seconds it connects automatically again.

Hi Quartz,

This is not the experience we want you to have; let us help you. A few questions: when did your issue begin? Were there any recent changes made? Does it only happen when using the YouTube Music app?

It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

  1. Unplug the power cord from your router, followed by your Nest speakers.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.

If the issue persists, let’s revert your Google Home Mini to its default settings by doing a factory reset. Here’s how:

  1. On the bottom of the Home Mini, press and hold the factory reset button located below the power cord.
  2. Look for a circle etched into the base.
  3. After 5 seconds, your device will begin the factory reset process.
  4. Continue to hold for about 10 seconds more, until a sound confirms that the device is resetting.
  5. Redo the setup.

Also, if it’s isolated to the YouTube Music app, we suggest that you reach out to them to know if changes have been added or if there are troubleshooting steps that they can provide.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Kimy

Hi there,

Give this a try:

  • Uninstall and reinstall the Google Home app > Log in.
  • Tap “Devices” > Choose your Google Home device > Settings > Remove device > Remove.
  • Back to “Devices”, scroll down to Other cast/Local devices > Choose your Google Home device > Add to a room. Follow the instructions in adding it back to your room.
  • Try to play music via voice command and then check the YouTube app.

Kind regards,
Alex
