Nest mini speaker CONSTANTLY disconnects from Bluetooth

dragnwispr

The Bluetooth on my nest mini speakers (it happens on all of them throughout my house) disconnect from Bluetooth constantly. It happens two different ways..

1- It just up and disconnects anywhere from 10 seconds to hours after connecting. When this happens, I can just reconnect under Bluetooth settings on the device. But after reconnecting, it can disconnect 10 seconds later!!
2- It stops playing, then about 5 seconds later it disconnects from Bluetooth. When this happens, the ONLY way to reconnect is by unplugging the speaker and plugging back in, then connecting through device settings.

Devices used are iPhone and a Fire tablet.
There are no other Bluetooth devices near the speakers, besides the device it’s connected through.
Distance between the device and speaker doesn’t matter, as it happens when the device is 1ft away from the speaker as well as all the way across the house.
Distance to the WiFi router doesn’t matter as it happens on a speaker that is just a couple feet from the router and ones that are across the house.
What is being broadcast doesn’t matter as it happens while streaming YouTube videos, audiobooks, or even a simple video taken on my phone.

The ONLY things happening are the speaker being used for Bluetooth and the device playing what is being broadcast through Bluetooth.

This has been happening for a long time now, and it’s just getting worse and more frequent! When will Google actually fix it?? I see many posts out there with no resolution, and they’re just shut down by Google people with no help whatsoever. It’s the ONLY speaker I’ve ever had that disconnects from Bluetooth on its own! How can such a big tech company have such a problem like this?

Hi dragnwispr,

Thanks for bringing this up.

We appreciate all the details you've shared as well as the steps you've tried. Let's go ahead and perform a complete reset to your Google Nest speakers and when you set it up, please try to move the speakers closer to the other speaker so we can compare its behavior after the reset. Once everything is completely set up, try to play music and other contents to see if this would make any changes.

Best,

Princess

Keep us posted.

I’ve done a factory reset on all of my speakers, and will start testing them over the next few days with both my iPhone and Amazon fire tablet. So far, the first speaker I’ve tested has disconnected within minutes of setting it up again and connecting to Bluetooth.

Hi dragnwispr,

How was it? We're other speaker working okay?

Best,

Princess

No. The issue was not resolved.

I’ve done a factory reset on all of my speakers. Tested all of them in the rooms they belong in, and all in one room. Bluetooth still disconnects randomly. Anywhere from less than a minute to hours later.

The phone (iPhone 12 plus max) is always anywhere from inches to 15’ away, direct line of sight, and no Bluetooth devices other than the Google mini speakers, iPhone, and Apple Watch nearby. There are WiFi devices, but only smart plugs (none of the speakers are plugged into a smart plug).

Everything is updated and restarted, including router and phone.

Disconnecting happens both when multitasking on the phone and when only the app being listened to is open and the phone is otherwise off. Happens no matter what app I’m using to listen to (YouTube, Audible, Instagram, Chrome, Facebook, etc.)

Again, two different types of disconnecting…

1. Instant. Listening to something, then I get the disconnect chimes right away. When this happens, I can reconnect via Bluetooth settings on phone.

2. Listening to something, then the audio stops and about 5 seconds later I hear the disconnect chimes. When this one happens, the only way to get it to reconnect to Bluetooth is to unplug/plug in the speaker, then reconnect via Bluetooth settings on iPhone.

Is this being worked on? I’m still having the same issue. I’m also having an issue where the assistant voice changes between male and female, and while testing things for that I’ve had only one speaker plugged in, and I still get the Bluetooth disconnecting. It’s beyond frustrating.

Another update from me… I’m having an issue with the voice changing from male to female, and one of the steps I was asked to take was to factory reset a speaker and add it back on a different account. I did that today, and it has disconnected from Bluetooth already. So clearly, the account I am on is not the issue. In case you need it, here is the technical information for this speaker, and another one I use more frequently on the original account.

I have filled out the form.

This is not a new issue (years old!), and I know many people are having the same problem, please do not close the thread so others can get help without having to start new threads. There are a ton of threads on this very issue, all being closed without resolutions.

I have had this same problem with my nest mini ever since I bought it. During that time I have replaced my wifi network. It happened on the old one and it happens on my new one. I have changed my iPhone from a 6 to a 13. It happened on the old one. It happens on the new one. I have factory reset the nest mini (several times). No difference. The nest mini is the ONLY bluetooth device I have ever had this problem with. (Also, the keyboard disappears when I tap in the “Associated Products” box below this, so I can’t type in the detail.)
