Netflix/youtube apps on Nest hub tries to cast on other devices - not playing on nest display

When trying to open either netflix or youtube on my nest hub - it brings up the remote control for my google tv with chromecast device and turns it on - trying to play the video there.

I can cast netflix or youtube from my phone to the nest display but not by the apps on the device itself

I just got my Nest Hub and was wondering the same thing. It always tries to play on my TV in the living room.

Hey folks,

Thanks for visiting the Community.

I understand how challenging it is when you're having issues playing Netflix and YouTube on your Google Nest Hub. A few questions: when did the issue start? Which Nest Hub do you have (1st or 2nd gen)?

Let's check if you have preferred TV setup on the Google Home app:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. At the top right, tap "Settings", then check if there's a default TV.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers,

Sorry for my late response. The default TV set for my Gen 2 device is set to 'Bedroom display' (that's where my Nest is located) and the TV in the living room is shown underneath but not selected. It seems to happen with any video app. Whether it's Netflix or Youtube, when I ask my Nest to start one of these apps it says that the TV appears to be unavailable and shows my living room TV on the screen.

I also reset the Default TV for my Nest, then selected itself again as default, but it still the same issue. It always wants to play everything on the living room TV. This behavior has been exhibited since I first set up my Nest last week.

Hey folks,

Thanks for all the information. It would help a lot if you could share a video showing what's happening when you play YouTube/Netflix on your Nest display. Also, please tell us the firmware version of your devices.

For me basically the exact same thing as in dkarampo's video is happening. Do you still want a separate video from me?

Same issue here. Is this a software bug?
