New issue: Can't request music to play on Sonos

Butterfly_net

I have an automation to turn on the shower and start playing music on a S1 Sonos.  This used to work if I chose Amazon Music as the music source.  I couldn't get it to work with Apple Music, but it would work every day using Amazon music.

About a week ago, it stopped working.  It says it worked, but the music isn't sent to the Sonos.  I  now can't make this work with any music provider.

I performed all the normal troubleshooting steps:

Rebooted the google mini, rebooted the Sonos, checked both for updates (even though they aren't updating the S1), relinked both music services to Google and Sonos.

Is this currently working for anyone?  Can we ask the developers if they changed something because this was working until last week.

Hi Butterfly_net,

Thank you for posting in the community. I apologize that you’re unable to reproduce the music on your S1 Sonos and Nest Mini with the home automation you created. I understand how frustrating this can be. Let’s work together to find a solution.

For further assistance. I need to ask a few questions:

  • Did you try to remove the home automation and add it back again?
  • Did you try to play your music provider using the Nest Mini only? If yes, does your Nest Mini work?
  • Do you have a speaker group created on your Google Home app?
  • Did you try to remove your S1 Sonos and Nest Mini from the speaker group and add them back again?

Please keep me posted. I’ll look forward to your response.

Regards,

Byron

  • Yes, i deleted and re-added the automation.  I also created an automation to do perform this one action to make sure no other command was causing the issue.
  • Interestingly, it is working a bit differently today than it was a few days ago.  When I posted the original question, there was no phrasing that would get Google to play any music at all on my Sonos.  When I say "Play my <playlist name> playlist from Amazon music", it plays that playlist on the speaker, so it works fine.  Now, when I say "Play my <playlist name> playlist from Amazon music on <Sonos name>, it plays an Amazon playlist or song, but not my actual playlist.  So, it's better that it is actually playing something.....any thing, but it no longer plays the playlist that I specifically requested.
  • I do have a speaker group, but this automation isn't trying to play to it and doesn't reference it.
  • The S1 is not part of the speaker group.

Hi Butterfly_net,

Thank you for your response. Based on the information provided.

Please rephrase the commands. Here is a good article to review how to control your Nest Mini by voice commands. In the section Listen Media-Music, there are a few different options to use.

Also, I just want to confirm. Did you try to use the voice commands on your Nest Mini to play the music provider? If yes, does the Nest Mini play the music media without the S1 Sonos?

Let me know how it goes and keep me posted.

Byron

When I say "Play my <playlist name> playlist from Amazon music", it plays the requested playlist on the Nest mini, so it works fine.

When I say "Play my <playlist name> playlist from Amazon music on <Sonos name>, it plays an Amazon playlist or song, but not my actual playlist, so it isn't working correctly.

So, the problem only occurs when the S1 is in the picture.

Also, I reviewed that link, and I don't see what changes I need to make to the way I'm requesting the music.  Can you please tell me what the proper wording of the commands is?

Hi Butterfly_net,

Thank you for your post. Based on your answers, it seems that when you request some music with the S1 Sonos, it doesn't work. I highly recommend contacting the Sonos Team support for further assistance, as it was working when it played with the Nest Mini. Here is the table to request commands to the Google Assistant:

Important: The above table is for requesting the Google Assistant to play the music from specific songs, albums, or genres. You should be more specific when requesting the command.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Regards,

Byron
