No longer able to play YouTube through any of my Google home devices

In the last month, I've lost the ability to play YouTube music premium through any of my Google home devices. When I give it a voice command it will say it's going to play, but then nothing plays and it eventually tells me something went wrong. When I try to cast from the YouTube music app on my phone, I hear the sound that the speaker is connect, but when I play the music the app just keeps skipping songs and eventually the speaker tells me sorry something went wrong. I'm able to cast music from my Spotify app to all of my Google home devices just fine. Seems like a pretty egregious error between YouTube music and Google home. Super annoying. I've tried all the troubleshooting steps, including releasing static, IPE reservations for my Google devices and setting them back up. I've rebooted my modem, factory reset my Google speakers, deleted Google home and YouTube music apps, nothing has worked.

Wow, that sounds incredibly frustrating, especially since both YouTube Music and Google Home are part of the same ecosystem. You've clearly done all the right troubleshooting steps, and the fact that Spotify works fine really points to a deeper issue between YouTube Music and Google Home integration. It's definitely not just a minor glitch if it persists after factory resets and network tweaks. Hopefully Google addresses this soon—it’s crazy that a paid service is the one giving the most problems.

Update: been working with YT support. After some troubleshooting, we were able to get streaming to work if I switch to a different YTM account with no subscription. Oddly enough, casting/streaming works, so it seems as if it's some issue with my premium account/subscription. Will report back as I learn more.

I'm getting the same thing today. I've just chatted with Google support and they have now sent it to their engineers to look at. I can cast with other apps ok (like power amp), but not youtube music. And it's from my laptop and phone. I'm on a family subscription, so I got my daughter to try from her phone and she can cast no problem. Weird. Plus, I can cast to video chromecasts, but not to audo chromecasts or google homes.

Hope they fix the problem soon.

Exactly the same think is happening to me , for the last 2 weeks. Tried everything, factory reset to all google devices, reinstal google home app, restart router, everything.....same think...starting to get anoying for a service that I am paying, but I can't use it. On google hub dispaly , can't play anything, on google speakers can play one or 2 radio stations, and youtube premium is totaly useless.....Please , fix this issues...a lot of ppl get stuck in this loop....I am thinking seriously to gen everthing to amazon...even that i have almost everything from google...the most and basic need ...aka...google hub and google nest speakes are not working

Hi Jonathan.

Thanks for the offer of help. I have already spoken to YouTube support, my Case ID is 2-2626000038476.

I have been able to cast youtube music to all of my cast devices (mini homes, chromecast audios, chromecast videos) for ever, and do so several times a week. It happens via my phone and laptop, so thinking it's not a front end issue. My Youtube is the premium plan and my wife and daughter can both cast to all devices from the YouTube Music (same family account).

I have tried casting to a few different ones of the following and all failed to play music via YouTube Music:
1. Google Home Mini
  - System firware 468362
  - Cast firmware 3.75.468362
2. Google Home Mini (version 2)
  - System firmware : 468348
  - Cast firmware: 3.75.468348
3. Google Chromecast Audio
  - Cast firmware: 1.56.467166

I was able to cast music to my Video Chromecasts
- System firmware: 467165
- Cast firmware : 1.56.467165

YouTube music app version: 8.16.51 (latest version, no updates available in the store)

Google Home version: 3.32.69.2

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers
David

Hi @Pertang,

Thanks for your reply and for the information shared.

While we work to resolve this YouTube Music issue, we encourage you to submit feedback directly from your device, if you haven’t already. Just say, “Hey Google, send feedback,” and provide as much detail as possible when prompted.

Please let me know if you have any questions from here, as I'd be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.

Cheers,
Jonathan

I have a case open with Google Support: 2-7112000038679

Casting from my phone (or any Google device/app) and direct play on my Google speakers via voice command doesn't work on any of my devices. I have several. Here is one that is affected:

  • Speaker or display you have: Google Home Max
  • Firmware Version: 275994, Cast FW: 1.56.275994
  • YouTube Music app version: 8.16.51
  • Google Home app version: 3.32.69.2

Not sure what happened and if others are experiencing the same thing, but as of yesterday afternoon, this functionality returned for me...inexplicably.

I'm the same. Tested it last night, just on a whim. Haven't heard anything from support, no client update and it started working again.
