Others are able to control my Google Home speaker even if I have turned off Recognition & Sharing

Hello. I am a student and I live in a hostel, where all students share a single wifi network, I have the recognition and sharing tab turned off on my google home but my friends are able to cast media from their phones. They’re not connected to my google account in any way so I’m not sure why that’s possible? Is there a way to turn that off so that only I can cast to my speaker? My friend also has a mini in his room and it appears as an option on my google home app even though, again, our google accounts aren’t linked or connected in any way. Please help! Thanks.

Hi @Rishav

If you are sharing the wifi then you can and others can cast to the devices and interact. The voice recognition is to show or read out personal things such as calendar, photos, private playlists etc.

The only way you can prevent casted media from others is to have a private wifi network.

Then what is the purpose of the Recognition & Sharing settings where there is a option to let others control your cast media.
