So, I'm having the same issue as many have had before. A paired set of 2nd gen minis works for about an hour before they break. It would be inaccurate to say one separates, but it seems to be what happens without home recognizing it.
In this case, I have Kitchen Speaker 1 and Kitchen Speaker 2. I pair then together and they become Kitchen Pair. I then group kitchen pair to kitchen hub max. A short time later, it disintegrates.
Kitchen pair only plays from 1 speaker. Kitchen speaker recreates itself as a local device outside of the pair. The pair claims both are present but only one plays and the pair cannot be separated. Both speakers require a hard reset.
This seems to be an ongoing issue, as far back as January. I'm not sure why google community insists on closing threads for ongoing issues so we can't have a single comprehensive knowledge base but they do. In this thread https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Speakers-and-Displays/nest-audio-pair-can-t-find-its-pair/m-p... one user found a very shabby, inconsistent work around and google support felt this was an adequate solution and ventured to close the thread.
It clearly is not a solution, google won't even admit theres an issue and as far as I can tell, there's no actual fix.
Since every thread gets locked, there's no one place to go for cumulative information, so that said, has anyone found a solution to this issue? Is it better to just skip pairing and just group them and not have stereo sound. Google's treatment of consumers is appalling, the idea that the fix above was sufficient and they considered it done is gross. If more people used this trash I wouldn't be surprised if there was a lawsuit.

Trying to work out if I have the same problem as you - if you're playing music and it only plays out of one speaker, does it adjust the volume of the music still if you press on the buttons on the speaker that ISN'T playing? That's basically what's happening to me. I can press the buttons on the speaker that isn't playing the music that should be playing music, and it adjusts the volume of the music coming out of the other speaker in the pair

I don't know anything about that issue, I may have had it but I never use the physical buttons to change volume, just voice.
Mine seems to be setup ok right now. Sometimes the pair of speakers will show as just one name and I can adjust the speaker volume of both in the app. Even though it shows as "Kitchen 1" it still works as a pair.
I reset it up by:
1.Removing both kitchen speakers from any and all groups.
2.Factory resetting both of my mini speakers
3. Setting up each speaker individually, naming them and placing them in the room.
4. Pairing the speakers in stereo, naming them.
5. Grouping them with my hub max.
This way I can call upon them as "kitchen pair" or "house speakers".
So far it seems to work. I did notice when the kitchen pair would rename itself as kitchen 1, as if it wasn't paired, the kitchen 2 speaker would be absent from the device list entirely. This hints to me that even though it isn't named kitchen pair, because kitchen 2 is listed separately it is actually still paired to kitchen 1 and is using the kitchen 1 moniker as the pair instead of "kitchen pair".
It makes no sense to me, but so far it seems to be working. Only thing that's really stupid is if I want to change the volume of all speakers at once I can't use "house speakers" to do both the hub and kitchen pair. I have to change their volume one set at a time, so volume down hub max, volume down kitchen pair.

Hello Montre,
Appreciate your patience and for updating this thread with your resolution, it's a big help. Just to add, when you pair your speakers, they function as a single unit. This is why you see only one speaker name instead of two, but both speakers should work when they are joined in an audio group. Also, we appreciate your feedback about controlling your devices volume. I'll pass it along to the team.

Hi Muddi,
Looks like that has been done in error as I didn't ask a question and I was replying to this subject (in fact, I was saying that I have experienced the same issue except whilst the pair are displayed as only one of the speakers' names, the pair still functions).
