Person/Motion Detection Notifications

We recently bought a Google Nest Hub Max as we wanted to have the camera help us monitor the kitchen with the built-in cam as well as provide a decent speaker for listening to music while working in there. We've had a Nest wired doorbell for a while and really like it, so was hoping to add more cameras in the future

I have an Aware subscription so I could save activity on the Hub Max and get the notifications.

I added the Nest Hub Max to my Google Home app via my iPhone. I was only able to see the live feed and could not get any notifications. After some digging, I downloaded the old Nest app. Via this app, I have been able to get Audio notifications. But I never receive any notifications for people or motion being detected.

Looking back in the Nest app, I have a Motion event late the night I set it up, motion events for about an 8 hour window on the next day, and then motion events for a 20 minute window a week later. The rest of the days have no events of any type.

I never received a notification for these events and not sure why it failed to capture events any of the other days/times as we've been home and the kitchen is a high traffic area. I tried setting up a Zone but that seemed to have no effect on anything.

Which app am I missing something in. Even if I don't get a notification, I would like to be able to go back and see clips from when it detects motion. But right now, I cannot even do that reliably. And it's making this purchase a disappointment. Thanks!

If you're not receiving person or motion detection notifications from your Google Nest Hub Max and are having trouble accessing the event clips, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Check Notification Settings:

  • Ensure that notifications are enabled for the Nest app on your iPhone. Go to Settings > Notifications > Nest and make sure notifications are allowed.

2. Review Camera Settings:

  • In the Nest app, check the settings for the Hub Max. Ensure that person detection and motion alerts are turned on. Sometimes these settings can be toggled off during setup.

3. Zone Configuration:

  • If you set up a Zone, make sure it’s correctly configured. Zones should be set up to cover areas where you want to detect motion. You might need to adjust the zone size or placement.

4. Check Aware Subscription:

  • Verify that your Aware subscription is active and linked properly to your Hub Max. Sometimes issues with subscriptions can affect event storage and notifications.

5. Restart Devices:

  • Restart both the Nest Hub Max and your iPhone. A simple restart can often resolve connectivity and notification issues.

6. Reinstall the Nest App:

  • If you're still having problems, try uninstalling and then reinstalling the Nest app. This can help reset any configuration issues.

7. Use the Google Home App:

  • While the Nest app is useful, ensure you're also using the Google Home app, as it provides additional features and integration with other Google devices. Check if the Hub Max shows any notifications there.

8. Firmware Updates:

  • Make sure that your Nest Hub Max is running the latest firmware. Check for updates in the Google Home app.

9. Check Internet Connection:

  • Ensure your Hub Max has a stable internet connection. A weak connection can affect its ability to send notifications.

10. Contact Support:

  • If the issue persists, consider reaching out to Google Nest support. They can provide more specific troubleshooting steps and help identify any underlying issues.

The only notifications we can get from our cameras or doorbells on a Nest Hub or Nest Hub Max are "Visitor announcements" when a doorbell button is pressed:

I'm not trying to see notifications on my Hub Max. I'm trying to get notifications on my phone when my Hub Max detects a person or motion with its built-in camera. I'm currently only getting notifications when the Hub Max detects noise.

Oh, sorry.  I've given up on getting notifications from the Nest camera on our Nest Hub Max.  Unlike all of our other cameras, notifications from the camera in our Nest Hub Max simply do not work.  I suspect it is related to the fact that the device has to use BOTH the Google Nest app and the Google Home app.

That's unfortunate, we bought the Hub Max for both the built in camera and the smart screen/speaker capabilities.

Yes, it is unfortunate.  We only turn on the camera occasionally in our Nest Hub Max, and at first the camera recorded and sent notifications.  At some point it started recording and sending notifications only intermittently.  Some posts in this forum recommend doing a factory reset, but there is no clear set of instructions in Google Nest's Help for how to do a factory reset on BOTH the Nest Hub Max AND on its Nest camera, and many customers in this forum have reported that when they do perform a factory reset, they either cannot get their Nest Hub Max to work correctly anymore, or the Nest camera in the Nest Hub Max no longer works correctly, or BOTH.  So we've mostly quit trying to use the Nest camera in our Nest Hub Max.
