Play the news action is not working on speaker groups

We have a combination of nest devices (hubs, mini speakers) and we have noticed that the action "play the news on $SPEAKERGROUP" does not work on speaker groups. It will only play on the device spoken to. If we say "Play $ARTIST on $SPEAKERGROUP" it works fine. I have verified that they are all on the same wifi network. We noticed this a month ago, so I am assuming it is not related to the sonos claims. I have also tried to create a new personal action to play the news, but that only supports the device spoken to. Has this feature been removed, or is tehre something else that I can check into?

Hi there,

I'm sorry you're running into this situation. I understand how frustrating it can be when your Nest devices aren't working as expected.

Try the troubleshooting steps here:

Keep me posted. I'm happy to help.

Best regards,

Melany

Thanks for the feedback.  The phrases I use work fine for a single device but they do not work for speaker groups. I can cast to a speaker group, but  I do not seem to be able to say to play the news on a speaker group.

Hi there @bkearney,

I appreciate all your efforts taken.

Have you tried these steps before?

Delete a group:

  • Open the Google Home App.
  • Open speaker group
  • Then tap, Settings
  • Delete "Group"
  • Tap Delete

Perform a factory reset:

Here is the link on how to try a Factory Reset, it depends on which device you have.

Create a group:

  • Open the Google Home app.
  • Tap Settings: Devices, groups & rooms
  • Tap Speaker groups: Create a speaker group.
  • Tap each device you want to include in the group and tap Next.
  • Enter a name for the group.
  • Tap Save.

Let me know how that works.

Regards,

Melany
