Playing BBC Radio on Home Hub

I have always been able to play BBC radio stations on my Home Hub by asking 'play radio 4', but today it just responds 'i can't do that on here'. What has changed?

Thanks but I can already do that. I could switch on the radio too. But I have a nest speaker so I can ask it to do things without getting out my phone

This has happened with my Google Home devices (MAX and MINI). It went off earlier in the week and returned but it's gone off again. Come on Google/BBC. 90% of my use of Google Home is listening to the BBC. All other UK radio stations work fine. So I'm pretty sure it's a BBC/Google problem. Does anyone from the BBC or Goggle Home look at this community? Giving feedback via the speaker doesn't seem to make a difference.

I've yet to have any official response - but it started working again at some point yesterday (5-Apr-23), However...

It's stopped again in the middle of the afternoon today (6-Apr-23)

I'm assuming someone plugged it back in, and then someone else has unplugged it again...  just in time for the easter break.

Looks like this is a known issue the BBC are aware of and investigating.

I've been using the Google next smart speaker now for around  4 years... Listen to the radio mainly radio 2 and Spotify yesterday when I wanted to play the radio  my Google nest responded by saying I can't do that here try on another device..  we have got a Google nest in the bedroom and that's still plays the radio but the one in the kitchen as stopped playing radio 2. I have tried everything I can think of to get the radio back on but it's not happening can't anyone help

Playing BBC Radio stations on my google nest and nest mini at the moment in Ireland is glitchy. It normally works fine but the last few days it has bern sometimes working and sometimes not working. 

This seems to be a different issue to UK users because it is working sometimes and also it is coming through tunein and not bbc

Agree it is a different issue, but  I believe bbc have blocked tunein and radioplayer apps. This is intentional from the bbc as they want people to only use bbc sounds.

Frustrating as sounds can be clunky.

Also the ongoing.other proble that even through sounds you can't access through Google smart speakers.

Have always listened to BBC Radio 2 on both speakers for years but as from a couple of days will no longer play any BBC stations. Have tried universal reset, full delete/uninstall/re set up. Worked for one day but the next day; not working again! Plays other stations/albums etc.

Yep thats it! I can't understand how it's worked fine for years & now it doesn't. Looking at previous posts it seems to be an issue but back in 2021. I can get the stations if I cast from my mobile but the whole point is to be able just to ask Google to play them 🙄🤯😆

Same problem - it's been happening on all our google smart speakers for over a week now. Infuriating when it can play any other radio station I can think of, but I only listen to BBC. Please hurry up with a fix Google.

Same with me. Worked fine for 6 years. Ask to play any bbc radio program and it says "can't do that now but you can get it on another device" 

Does anyone know where to contact bbc about the issue?

Go to BBC player on the web, then scroll to the bottom and go to FAQs, then look for contact us, then let them know as many times as you can. I've been telling them daily and had no response.

i don't think it can be a BBC iPLayer issue, since it works for the rest of the family. It's only my voice that doesn't work - so must be a Google/Nest issue.

Exactly the same here. BBC works fine on 3 different google smart speakers when my wife or daughter are using them but not when my voiceis detected...really annoying

Same problem here. I used to be able to stream 6music/radio 4 and link it to my morning alarm. Now only my husband's voice can stream bbc radio stations from our Google speakers. It's so infuriating and has completely messed up my morning routine.

Update on my end, the problem started on April 11th, here it is now early in the morning of April 13th, and all my Google Assistant requests/commands have been restored to where I can easily connect to Sirius XM, Spotify, and iHeart Radio once again with no problems and without having to hear that ridiculous response of: "I looked for (insert your music or channel name) and it either isn't available or can't be played right now". 

All's back to somewhat normal.

Maybe a short time before you are up and running again if not already.

Oh my! Yes it is....thanks Kat. Would not have known had you not posted this. However, won't be listening till Jeremy Vine at noon as I'm a Pop Quiz fan. I still think it was BBC originated nonsense.
