Problem adding a third Nest Hub

catjim

We have two Nest Hubs successfully operating and have tried to add a third one.  Loads of trouble getting it to maintain a wifi connection.  Factory reset multiple times and been through the connection process numerous times.  Moved it around the house, closer to the modem, next to one of the other working versions.  Same problem.

Figured it was faulty, so returned it to the store and got a new one.  Got the new one set up and same problem.

Tried unplugging one of the other working devices and the new one was happy to connect and stay connected.

Is there a problem with having more than two devices?  That is what we are thinking now.  Anyone else had this happen?  Do you have three or more devices working happily?

Hi catjim,

I have 4 x Nest Hubs, 1 x Nest Hub Max, 2 x Nest Audio's along with 5 x Chromecast devices, multiple other Nest mini's, Smart bulbs and switches all working great together.

I also use Google Nest WiFi as the modem supplied by my service provider was bad.

If you have a mobile device that can create a hotspot then you could try setting the hotspot with the same network name and password as your home WiFi, switch the home WiFi off and see if the devices stay connected to the hotspot. This might help you determine if it's an issue with your home WiFi router/network.

Cathal

We have the exact same problem with our Hub Max and our baby monitor that previously had no issues staying connected. We have had the hub max replaced under warranty and same issue.

@catjim

We have 4 Nest Hubs and 1 Nest Hub Max, along with numerous cameras and doorbells, and they all stay online, with 1 Xfinity router/modem and 2 wired Linksys routers configured as access points, and 900 Mbps down and 16 Mbps up. As @Cathal_S  suggested, it might be an issue with your Wi-Fi network.

Hi folks,

Thanks for the help, @Cathal_S and @MplsCustomer.

@Mossy22 and @catjim, thanks for posting. I know how it feels when something isn’t working as it should. Did you try the suggested step by Cathal_S to isolate the issue? Let's rule out the possibility that it has anything to do with the network. Set up your Nest Hub using a mobile hotspot. You need two phones for this. Follow the steps below.

  1. Phone 1 open hotspot.
  2. Phone 2 connects to Phone 1 hotspot.
  3. Phone 2 download Google Home app.
  4. Factory data reset your Google Nest Hub.
  5. Setup Nest Hub using Phone 2 and use hotspot as a source of network.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Juni

Thanks for your help. I have actually returned the google product and bought a net gear and all of our devices are connected with zero problems or drop outs. This confirms that there was nothing wrong with our wifi or the products connecting to it. It just shouldn’t be this hard and you shouldn’t have to run multiple resets/tests everyday to keep it working. When you buy a product you expect it to work. I would not recommend google nest to anyone.
